Didn't even get a chance to try the food. I ordered ahead to go. Googled their website to look at the menu, called and ordered. When I got there they said the bill was $55, not $31 like the menu online showed. I bring this up, and show them the pictures of the menu and the prices. She goes to tell the manager/owner, and they just tell me that isn't there menu. I say, I'm pretty sure this is considering the menu link was on the name of the restaurant online. Plus when I ordered the "Hobo Hash" she knew what I was talking about. Don't think it would be somewhere else's menu with that same name for that meal. She then tells me it must be their old menu. I said "Oh ok, well since it's not updated an I've been pretty thrown off by the $24 price difference, I would still like to purchase the food I ordered for the price I thought it was, and what it said online. Especially because I drove 20 minutes to try this place." She then says very condescendingly, "Oh you mean the menu from 2017"... Shocked at the rudness, I said, you should probably change the menu prices online if they're from 2017. She says "Well, times are hard right now" lol. I say, times are to hard to take 2 minutes and change the pictures of the menu online? She then says, we usually have people place their order online, not by calling. I say, I'm pretty sure 90% of people that have never been here would Google to find it, and not necessarily just place the order online. And, without one apology and 0 empathy for a customer, she just says again, those aren't our prices. I tell my wife and I are both business owners and deal in customer service every day, and this is absolutely not how we would handle this. We would definitely honor the price, especially when the customer is showing proof. And the items we deal in are worth a heck of a lot more then a breakfast. I tell them, I'm sorry, I'm not paying $24 more then I was expecting to. And set the food down on the counter. They just let me walk out the door. On my way out I let them know how poor of customer service that was. I would not have minded paying that price at all if I knew that was the price. Not to mention I tip 20% even when picking up to go. Because I am a big believer in great customer service and satisfaction. Thought we'd try this place over Dixies where we've been going for years. Even though Dixies has great customer service, and even better food. But looks like it was a sign to just go where we know is good. We will definitely not be ever coming here to eat. Especially for the bimonthly brunch that my wife takes her 38 employees to. I suggest just going to Dixies, or anywhere else. I am a very kind and calm person, even when dealing with rudeness. But this was just...
Read moreI will start this review by saying normally we have a very pleasant experience with this restaurant, however today we were shocked by the service. We’ve lived in Sumner for 3 years (previously had gone to highschool in this area too, so we’ve been in the area long enough). This morning we placed a breakfast order around 0800 for takeout and had issues with the server/cashier Teresa(sorry about the spelling). When I called in to place the order the employee was rude and abrasive. the employee was speaking very quickly with a tone as if we were bothering her. When the phone was first answered there was a long pause with a quick agitated reply of "hometown cafe." and then another long pause. when my wife stated she would like to place an order for pickup she was met with "what do you want?" in the same rushed agitated tone. Throughout the conversation I had to repeat items in the order multiple times. For example, we ordered a biscuits and gravy breakfast, and I was asked "biscuits and gravy what?". I felt as if I was inconveniencing the employee by calling my breakfast order in - and being rushed off the phone.
I wanted to give the employee the benefit of the doubt figuring that she may be busy or having a bad day. Unfortunately, when my husband arrived in person to pick the order up, he was met with the same agitated, abrasive, and bothered behavior. When entered, He stood by the wait here sign for a minute or so and then was met by "Are you here for dine in?" He stated He was coming in for a pickup and the response was something along the lines of "Okay, come back here then." in a frustrated tone. when looking at the receipt He noticed an error about adding a side of bacon to the waffle we ordered but were going to be charged for a full-size order of bacon. He brought it to the server's attention, and instead of apologizing for the miscommunication she blamed me, stating, "Next time she needs to be more specific." I feel like that was her job to clarify the order - not myself as I was calling in the order, unable to see a menu. The in-person interaction continued in this fashion with the cashier maintaining an agitated and annoyed tone. Our service ended by having the server write our credit card information down on a scrap piece of paper because she said the machines weren't working and that she would have to unplug everything to get them to work. She said she would run the card when her manager arrived, and I guess I'm left to hope she will charge us the appropriate amount and not add additional charges or use the card...

I arrived in a group of 5 around 12:30 PM on a Sunday and it was a 40 minute wait.
It's layout and decor is quaint. It's in an older building, and immediately upon entering is a snug waiting area that is separated from the rest of the restaurant by walls, a small booth with a staff member taking calls, and a small staircase leading upstairs. Just behind this is a mini bar and then an open view into the kitchen. It was completely packed with people sardined on a vintage couch and groups waiting outside. The hostess was busily taking calls and managing an old fashioned pen and paper list for reservations and the waitlist. My group of 5 was seated by the large bay windows on the main floor. I wish I had explored what was upstairs. The bathrooms in the back were tucked near the broom closet.
The menu is fairly short but there was lots of freedom to customize your meal. The prices are kind of high for a diner.
My table ordered the cinnamon rolls, the southwestern omelet, the Big Chicken chicken fried steak meals, and the special of the day French toast breakfast.
The cinnamon roll was the star of the show. It was huge. It was well made and hard not to swallow whole. I would go back for the cinnamon roll alone. The French toast was made of regular sliced bread and topped with partially frozen strawberries instead of fresh ones. Most of the signature meals use size/quantity as their main hosting feature. So if you know what you like and want a lot of it, this is the place to go.
Also, they had some impressively thick bacon, which is hard to come by at diners.
The staff were all super friendly and quick to get back to us. Staff members were immediate to acknowledge us when we stepped in and even quicker to have us brought waters and served. I was nervous that arriving at 12:30 and then being seated within an hour of their close would be inconvenient to staff, but no one expressed annoyance or rushed us out.
Overall, this location is a super safe bet for breakfast. It is down to earth but with lots of personality. It feels like a fun excursion but you don't need to be in your Sunday's...
