Cute but slightly hard to find place with lackadaisical service. This is offset by their willingness to let my wife bring some of her own food on account of some severe dietary restrictions she has to deal with. I went to the SC as part of an effort to find the best (in my opinion) biscuits and gravy in the area, and this place is a contender for my top 2. The 2 times I've gone up until now, I had a bowl of their rhubarb crisp for a pre-breakfast/brunch appetizer; it's really good. Their biscuits are flat and dense but delicious, and their gravy is very good too. They confirmed that they don't use oil in their biscuits, but they do use cow's milk cream. (I've stopped eating the biscuits at Hops N Drops due to the fact they have soybean oil in them.) Next time (and there will be a next time) I go to the SC, I need to remember to take green Tabasco sauce with me; they only have red Tabasco and equivalents (e.g., Tapatío). They add some kind of herb to the top of their fried eggs; I really like that they don't just serve them up plain. They'd lose a star for their service, but because I was able to have my wife with me there so we could eat with some friends, they get the star back.
Edit 7/14/24
They've been short of or out entirely of biscuits and rhubarb crisp 2 of the last 3 times I've been there, and when I stopped by yesterday, they were unexpectedly closed completely. Taking off a star from the overall rating due to reduced availability of both food and the business itself. Their food is great if they have it; best to call ahead to ensure they do have what you want and to make sure...
Read moreLong time Sumner resident. 10.13 lunch visit. To go order. Order came out wrong. After discovering, I returned to have them correct it. Began explaining to a gal at the register and in the middle, the owner Daniel approach and interrupted and really wanted me to understand what his ticket said. Then kept asking what the problem was and would not listen to me. Was insitent that he was trying to understand but kept cutting me off and explaining what they did on the order. I asked for my money back and they obliged. But they were not interested in my perspective or experience and how they could make it right. Another helper chimed in and cut me off and asked me to leave. I wont even discuss the issues with the order unless Daniel responds to this and it is warranted. Doesn’t matter if I ordered it wrong or was even not understanding something. He was not trying to understand me, he was intent on showing that he/they did what the ticket said. Ok, good luck buddy, I don’t care about your ticket. I know what I want and you didn’t try to listen. Customer service 101. I do not...
Read moreI found this off Main Street cafe because of Groupon. What a find!!! Charming little cafe on Alder St with great sandwiches, soups, and baked goods. The roast beef is my favorite with a generous helping of beef in the sandwich. The soups are some of the best I have ever tasted and where this place really shines.. The vegetable beef is chocked full of beef and vegetables including three types of beans. The split pea with ham is thick, creamy, rich, and full bodied with a great ham flavor. The tomato basil is a thick creamy soup with a savory tomato flavor. He makes all the muffins, cookies, and pies himself. A friend of mine has a gluten allergy. She loved the gluten free bread used to make her sandwich. She said it was the best she had ever tasted. Many of the soups are gluten free too. The owner and his small staff of servers (2) are friendly and nice to deal with. I very highly recommend this wonderful little cafe and I have been...
