This place goes by 3-4 different names on the internet and has different name outside the building. It's primarily a sweet and snack shop and is trying extremely hard to wanna-be-restaurant.
When we entered no one was there to welcome or point to the tables. You have to walk into the sweet shop to ask someone to clean tables up. You pass by the toilets, dirty floors to place your order. Dim lights with bland interiors. Atmosphere 0.5/5
Food quality: reasonably good. Jalebi, pyaz kachori and raj kachori were the highlight among 10 different items we ordered. Chai was cold and tasteless. Vada paav was mediocre Food tasty and quality: 2.5/5
Customer service: didn't exist. The staff shouted from across the hall and asked us to clean up when we were still eating. The staff and I believe the mgmt. were sitting in one corner or just wandering around. They bring some of the food items at your table. You have to carry snack by yourself. Pretty confusing, haphazard and bit annoying. There were no waiters to fill up your water ( yes, disposable cups and no real glasses), or to provide napkins or cutlery or to show the menu. Rating 0.5/5
Recommendation: this place has low standard place overall. 3.8 rating of 621 reviews is very very high and doesn't fit with the experience I had. May be good for take outs.
Keep this honest review in mind to avoid disappointment later. Hopefully, the owner and staff will work together to improve the overall...
Read moreWorst chaat I ever had was here at Bikaner Chaat. I had picked up Veg Biryani back in Nov and it was pretty good, so this time, ordered $100 worth of food. Since it was phone order, I picked up the food which was already packed for take out. There was no green Chutney provided at all for the chaat, 2 tbsp sweet Chutney for 8 chaat items. Moreover, the chickpea had gone bad and all the chaat items had rotten smell to them. None of the chaats had anything else other than chickpea and potato. Paani for pani puri was tasteless and diluted, no spices. Gobi manchurian was hard and no sauce on them, more like fritters. Most expensive Shahi samosas were bite size rectangular squares over burnt. Garlic Naan was good, Kashmiri Kofta had a tasty gravy but the Kofta itself was merely a potato. Paneer for tikka Masala wasn't fresh. Saving grace was the veg noodles, superbly done. I support local businesses, and love to give hole in the wall restaurants a chance. But Bikaner Sweets was the most disappointing experience ever in my 8 years in Bay Area. Regret spending a dear $100 on crap this holiday season. By the way, there was a rubber band inside the bhel. Make sure you check your order if you are...
Read moreFond of Indian food, I want to try as many recommended places in Bay Area for Indian food as possible. I am also looking to try new places as I can to be able to access what is authentic in indian food so this place was something glad I tried. It was fairly busy even for a mid day weekday visit and the staff was freshly preparing the snacks and chaats. They were doing it with dedication you could tell.
We ordered some sweets, Jalebis, samosa and kachoris! Everything was delicious. We also tried something called Paneer Jalebi for the first stuff which was actually much better than a regular jalebi - well balanced and soft.
Plenty of other options for food - chaats and deserts to pick from so will have to come and try more when I get the chance. Items on the menu especially the snacks were quite pricy, much more than expected. Seating area was small but enough to fit a good 15-20 people. They have another restaurant too but that's currently closed and only the quick grab or small sit down area is open.. I believe they share the same kitchen by the looks of it! If you want fresh indian food and snacks this is definitely a place...
