We had dinner at Owl’s Nest this evening, and while some aspects were fantastic, others left us disappointed.
First, the positives—the staff was great: friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere is beautiful, though a bit dimly lit for our taste. As for the food, we started with an oyster shooter, which was top-notch, even for someone who doesn’t typically enjoy oysters. The burger on a gluten-free bun was also fantastic—juicy, flavorful, and well-prepared.
However, the Caesar salad was a major letdown. When it arrived, we honestly thought it was a joke. It consisted of about 12 whole leaves of lettuce stacked on top of each other, with a sprinkle of Parmesan, salt, and pepper—no dressing in sight. The plate was massive, yet the salad itself was no bigger than a small side portion. After realizing the dressing was missing, we had to ask for it separately. For $18, this was unacceptable. We have no problem paying for a good salad, but at that price, it should be tossed properly, well-portioned, and actually feel like a full dish—not just a pile of plain lettuce on a plate.
Overall, we had a mixed experience. The service, ambiance, and some dishes were excellent, but the salad was a major disappointment. With a few adjustments, this place could be great, but as it stands, we’d be hesitant to order certain...
Read moreI gave this place a five-star rating because I enjoyed their drinks, food, service, and the ambiance. Keep in mind that this restaurant belongs to the Sunriver Resort. It practically is located in the middle of nowhere, unless you're counting a handful of all American restaurants/bars in the nearby Village or if you're willing to drive to Bend for more options. During our visits this year, we had their fish and chips (must try) and the Lodge burgers. If you like beer battered fish, you have to try this. The batter was always cooked to perfection, the batter was crunchy/crispy on the outside and the inside was cooked completely (there was no wet dough). The fish and batter ratio was perfect, too. There was a lot of fish. When ordering the burger, I added bacon and a fried egg. I liked the burger so much because I could taste the charred meat. Last but not least, the cocktails were also tasty and strong. Don’t forget to order desserts. I especially liked their crème brûlée. We were lucky to get the same waitress for our dinner visits. I think her name is Ann. She was very sweet and attentive. Well, the service we received from other staff was decent, too. No complaints. Prices were decent for a...
Read moreAfter being loyal customers at this lodge for over 20 years, we recently had a terrible experience. During dinner, a couple of guys came up to our table and started swearing at us for no reason, even with a four-year-old with us. We asked them to leave, but they stayed and kept causing trouble. When we complained to the manager, we visually saw the manager reseat them and then were told by the manager later that they “reseated themselves” at the other end of the restaurant. The manager also stated that these guys were "golf members" held to a different standard. Seriously? Does this mean because I own an home and am a golf member that I can come in and use vulgar language randomly at other people in the restaurant and simply just be moved? Apparently, this isn't the first time it's happened. Why is this okay?
The manager tried to pass the blame, saying it's up to the golf side management. That's just not true. We're regulars here, spending well over a grand each time we visit with our family, and we deserve better. Will be waiting for upper management to contact...
