Food was pretty good. Overpriced but expected in Sunriver. What really hurt was the service. We walked in and waited a couple of minutes before we even saw an employee. Then, they completely ignored that we were standing there. He literally walked away from the host stand without saying a thing. The next guy that came by about a minute later seemed bothered to ask what he could help us with. Uhm. Seriously? Nevertheless we were finally sat at a table. We put that off in hopes our server would be better. But no, as soon as we ordered waters around her attitude changed. We asked for pepper because there wasn’t any at the table we were at. I never got the pepper. We got a burger with no sauce on it at all. The food was gone before she came back to check on us and that’s when we got to ask for more water. Now of course, you’re probably wondering if it was busy. No. 4 empty tables in this area alone. The energy in this facility is not inviting by anyone of the employees. Looking for a decent plate of food without of the box options, give it a try, just don’t expect any customer service. Also, I’m able to complete this whole rating while waiting for my lemonade to go…
Update: we went back for a second try. First, for those of you who automatically tip just because the checkout process asks for one, stop, please. You are part of the problem. The guy was at the hostess stand! He confusingly asks “what can I do for you” this statement really throws us off; maybe ask if we’re dining in or getting something to go. Anyway, he went to check for a clear table in the bar because there was some live music happening. :) cool! He came back, grabbed us and took us to the table, saw a menu there, made us stand there while he went to check if it was taken, someone (I think he said the bartender) told him it wasn’t so he sat us. We got our menus from him and he walked away. We picked up the menus when another person (I think this was the server) came to tell us the table was already taken and we’d have to sit somewhere else. Uhm, 😐 okay. No guidance to another table or anything. We just walked out. There’s a joint called Sunriver brewing right up the sidewalk. Place was packed but the service was awesome. Worth the walk in the rain comparatively. My personal recommendation for the business is organize the hostess stand first. Then teach your waiters about how...
Read moreWe, being my wife and I, decided to go here for their happy hour (from 3pm to 6pm daily) after a few hours of shopping in Sunriver. It was a few ticks past 5pm when we arrived, and the separate bar was already half full, but the tastefully dimly lit dining area had 3 tables only. The hostess sat us immediately right across from the center fireplace. Sweet! Only a half shake of a lambs tail later and Steve introduced himself as our server. 6 stars for our server Steve!! He was super friendly right off of the bat, and highly skilled at his job. As time went by, tables started to fill up, but he never skipped a beat, made a mistake, nor neglected to take the few seconds it takes to touch any of his tables. I asked him a few questions on the menu and ultimately went with his suggestions and was very happy I did! He even gave an extra house wasabi ranch sauce with the dragon wings. Along with a great sense of humor, Steve was very observant w/o being overbearing. We started out with a basket of onion rings ($8), and my wife ordered the chicken parmesan ($26) while I ordered the wings ($16) and the shishito pepper burger ($18). Her plate was huge! The chicken breast was breaded and fried, and had a very generous amount of mozzarella and marinara all atop a pile of noodles, and tagging along was a big slice of garlic bread. Her chicken was very moist and tender, almost not needing a knife to cut into it. Onion rings - awesome. Wings - super awesome. Shishito burger - awesome as well. Not too spicy, and if you know shishitos, they aren't spicy like a jalapeno or serrano, but have a great chile pepper flavor after being roasted. The burger was heavy and packed with flavor, but not so sloppy that fixings slip and fall out. We finished off with a hot lava cake that came with 3 little scoops of vanilla ice cream ($12). Perfect portion for 2 to share after a meal like ours. My wife visited the bathroom pre-grub, and really liked how clean and pleasantly fragranced they were. They offer a local Sunriver lotion as well, alongside no touch soap and paper towel dispensers which is always a plus. Thanks to Steve and the cooks for making our experience @Village Bar & Grill a pleasant one. Very...
Read moreWe've been coming here for 2.5 years because the food was good. The fish and chips were amazing. The hot pastrami sando is killer (fall/winter menu) unfortunately the last 3 times we've gone the food was horrible. So many new faces. Ryan, our long time excellent server, we haven't seen in months. Service has gone from outstanding to ok.
On to the food. As I said before the fish and chips here were very good. Used to be Alaskan fish and chips but recently have been changed to rockfish.. Lately they've declined so much that the last time we had them a month ago they were completely sogged out and greasy. Almost as if there were put in oil that wasn't hot enough, taken out and fried again when oil was hot. The french fries (that used to be so addicting that you can't stop eating them) we're dark brown over cooked almost burnt. This last trip we tried the pork schnitzel with butter noodles. Been so long since we've had good German food. Don't here. Their version was not a pork cutlet pounded to about a quarter inch thick and fried. Their's was a pork chop not pounded or seasoned whatsoever and medium rare. Almost rare. Butter noodles completely void of butter. I swear they were just cooked in water and put on the plate. The cabbage had zero flavor. Not even cabbage flavor. Not sure how they accomplished that. Had to ask for salt and pepper because nothing on the plate was seasoned. The table behind us also asked for salt and pepper. We even asked the server if he's had it and is it good. He said yes and it was good and huge plate of food. He was right about that. Lots of food, just not good. I went with the lemon caper salmon because I've had it before and was good. Salmon was moist and tender and cooked very well. Unfortunately, not this time. Salmon was over cooked and dry. Zucchini was tender crisp but cold. Garlic mash was best thing on the plate. Hot, garlicky and seasoning was spot on.
We're not sure what has caused this decline. Something has had to have happened. We will not be coming back. And that's a bummer. It was soooooo good before. Always packed and busy. So much so that we started going early. Not anymore. I know its beginning of off season but...
