The ways me and my African friend were treated, was truly unacceptable!! It was a nice Wednesday afternoon, around 12, good weather, not busy it at all. I am a Computer Science major and he is a Bio-Medicine major from Ireland. We are very smart people with intellectual majors and came in to seek some food in a low-stress environment. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with the phrase "How can I help you?". Unfortunately, I don't remember the woman's name, but she was caucasian with dark brown hair, whom wore glasses. My friend and I looked at each other with confusion, as we expected to be brought to a table. I then said with confusion, "Do we just pick a table?" She said, "Yeah." This was confusing, as a banner upfront stated "Please wait for a waiter to seat you." We proceeded to pick a table un-associated with the bar/pub. She promptly spoke to us, after seating and says to us that technically we are not allowed on the premisses, but she would let it slide. We were confused.. Never gave our ages out at this point. Starting off with drinks, my friend asked to have a Strawberry Daiquiri. She asked him for his identification. He unfortunately did not have his physical passport with him at that given moment. Although, he is 22, this was totally understandable and there was no obligation for her to serve him a drink without physical documentation to prove his age. Therefore, he instead asked for a virgin Strawberry Daiquiri, while I ordered a Mr. Pibb. She says, "I'll be right back." As we expected our drinks, she comes back and delivers the news that we were not allowed here and that they could get into some serious trouble by having us on their property. She then proceeded to ask my age. I was honestly shocked, as I have no ordered any alcohol at this point.. I honestly told her, I was 18. She said I needed a legal guardian/parent to be with me inside the "Restaurant". It seems that majority of this quote on quote "Restaurant's" one-star reviews have to do with this very reason. As a bi-racial and my friend being African, we felt as though we were being racially segregated. I was born and raised and have lived in America my entire life. This was so embarrassing for me, as my Irish friend just witnessed Americans acting so immature and racist. I have never encountered such disrespect and an chaotic event. We weren't sitting at the bar, for heaven sakes. I am not the type to cause a scene. If you don't want our business, then why would we want your service. Absolutely, disrespectful. If this place truly cannot serve to anyone under the age of 21 without a parent/guardian as you claim, it should not be known as a "Restaurant." Never again will I ever recommend or let anyone I know provide business to this supposed "Restaurant". Sure, you serve food.. Although, it seems to me your entire establishment is obviously a bar, if we couldn't even dine and have alcoholic beverages away from the bar. Didn't realize this is the society I live in today and my beautiful United States, that I call home. I have read numerous one star reviews. I know the owner will see this. I have seen the way you respond to these innocent customers like us, and how you treat them which such disrespect. One of the reviews, you claimed "I am sorry we couldn't make you and your under-age girlfriend happy." How flipping disrespectful to say to someone. Just know, your establishment is trash and all my adult friends that recommended this as a place for me and my Irish mate to go will not be your customers any longer. I have never be treated like this and encountered such disrespect as a bi-racial eighteen year old, and this is only the beginning. Welcome to...
Read moreI'm so very disappointed. This restaurant has been my favorite for more than 10 years. I can say I never had a bad plate of fish & chips from the wolfhound....that is until today. Walking in I noticed dirty napkins under the hostess desk, hostess was very young and it was obvious she didn't want to be there. I told her just a table for one and she repeated a table for two? I repeated myself again no just one. Sat me at a high top table and gave me a menu. The vinegar bottle was filthy which I'm assuming was from St Patrick's Day - yesterday. Staff was having a conversation in front of my table asking if anybody heard from I assume another server. Sadly, no one had heard from her today. They were very short staffed and the place was packed. The server was very nice but very disheveled. I let her know I just wanted a water with a plate of fish and chips. While I was waiting for my order, I looked behind me. A server was giving another table a plate of something. I thought to myself are those the Irish nachos? A few minutes later I got clear clarification that it was indeed fish and chips. If the person had not announced it when it was being brought to the table I would have thought it was fried butterflied shrimp. I never seen anything like that served at the wolfhound. Normally they have these beautiful pieces that have been battered with Guinness. There's usually not even a trace of grease/ oil anywhere. I look down at my very sad looking plate and realized I had 11 French fries. And the blobs of brown greasy batter clumped together were mere pieces of white flaky fish. I asked the server if there was a shortage of potatoes. 10 minutes later another person came by and brought me a dozen or so overcooked chips / French fries. At that point I figured I better just cut my losses and finish my coleslaw which was the best item on the plate. That was until I saw a long black hair smack dab in the middle of the coleslaw. Nausea came in waves along with me thinking you got to be kidding me. While I was pushing the plate away the server came back with the bill! I softly said to her that there is a hair in my coleslaw. She says what? I said there is a hair in the middle of the coleslaw. She picked up the tray with the bill on it and said we will take care of this. I didn't know whether to stay and apologize or leave while I had the chance. I seriously doubt they give doggy bags for vomit. Luckily I made it home before my body violently...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking for a place that had good fish and chips. And this place hits the spot. At our first visit, I got the shepherds pie and she got fish and chips.
The shepherds pie was not my favorite. Though flavorful, it would be good for those who don't mind the taste of beer. I got the fish and chips on our second visit!
The fish and chips though.... = Mind blown (in our opinions). The breading is light and crispy. The fish is tender and you do not need a fork. The chips (fries) are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The portion is perfect for a single person. It also comes with coleslaw and a side of tartar. The dish is about $17.
Update: 1/20/22 We ordered the sausage rolls. They are a min 20 min wait time because they are made fresh. They are wrapped in pastry dough and are flaky and very delicious. You get 2, cut in half. The plum sauce is a MUST with them! It is slightly sweet which pairs well with the unique taste of the sausage.
On Fridays, all day, they offer all you can eat fish and chips. The portion is smaller and when you want more, you only get more fish. It is about $0.50 cheaper than the regular dinner portion. If you go on a Friday, go early! They get busy after 4:30pm quick.
Because they get so busy, the service is a little slow. But it's worth the wait. The staff is friendly and if you're on the patio, it's comfortable. We have been twice and both times, though a tad chilly, the center propane firepit and perimeter heaters made it very comfortable to sit.
On most nights, they will have live music and it does get loud inside. Currently, masks are optional and they are not social distancing inside/outside.
The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because some of the food doesn't compare to their fish and chips. That is the star of...
