UPDATE 10/20: still a favorite place for food and usually can find one or two beers I like there. Staff seems to be back on their game for service and everyone is always friendly. We do visit weekly. Have tried other locations, but Surprise seems to be our favorite. Still worth dropping in and giving it a go. I recommend the beet salad, arugula and prosciutto pizza, the corned beef sandwich is the best when they have everything for it, the Brussel sprouts, and the fish po boy, and really anything on the menu.

UPDATE: Back to the chaotic and slow - was in for happy hour and was there about 15 minutes before it ended at a bar table. Waitress gave us the 'be right with you' look' and then we didn't see her until I was finally able to flag her down toget an order in. She said, she would try to get it in for happy hour but it was close. A minute later she came back and said we missed it. I mentioned we had been there waiting, but she said sorry it is all done by the clock on the system. Really? Over 10 minutes waiting for drinks is bad enough. There were 4 folks behind the bar with plenty of time to step out and help. Something would have been nice and most places will make sure to get around for last call on happy hour to take care of folks. Ya'll keep making me drive to Saddle Mountain or hit Transplant City Brewery area.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I like State 48, don't get me wrong. Nice patio and a good selection of food. Haven't had anything bad food wise. Unfortunately to me the beers are just average with little variety in taste characteristics overall. I think they try to do a more is better thing instead of quality of quantity. Also, it can be a bit disorderly and chaotic getting service, especially trying to order at the bar. It is loud with either crowds or the road next to the patio (obviously only so much they control on that, but worth noting)

That said, we do go often as it's close, but try to avoid standard busy times. If you do go I can highly recommend the Fig and Prosciutto pizza, or any of the pizzas. For beers if I do one of theirs it is the Vortex or Freedom IPA. Both...

I am very disappointed in the service I received yesterday! I took my adult children out for a family night and we experienced the worst service. From the moment we walked in. We were not greeted and if it was not for a child needed shoes for bowling we would have probably continued to wait as if we weren’t there. The server was not busy when we initially arrived and it still took forever to receive drinks and place our orders. She was not attentive at all, it was almost as if we were bothering her. We had to get her attention as she walked by us to order any items. After time there were more and more people around us so the service got even worse. I was even approached by the family next to me about the service and I told her it was terrible. I work in a customer service environment and my number one goal is to provide excellent service but your team has no idea what that means. We had other servers walk by and through the area and no one else tried to assist. That may be common in your establishment but typically In other places it is not. The family next to us went to speak the manager and typically when there is a complaint the manager will walk around asking about service but that also did not happen. The server was only attentive when i explained to her that my drinks were not as requested and my burger was so cold as if it sat in the kitchen until the server made time to bring it to me and she wanted us to pay our ticket. I see all the negative reviews and it is a shame that the service is not better in this place considering it is in a very busy area in westgate. Your team needs some training in customer service and in your bowling area they need more than one server who gets so flustered so quickly and it shows when there is more than lane...

I love local spots and we’ve visited State 48 a few times in the last month. We’ve of course come over the years when near by, but they seem to be getting better and better. I love to see that! Depending on when you come it may be a bit difficult to find parking, but we got lucky and didn’t even have to wait for a table. Tonight we opted for the side in the bar or what they call The Barrel Room. It’s very cool, many tv’s, high tops, booths and cozy couch area. While it is a brewery it wasn’t so loud you couldn’t talk and I like that. I love, love, love their pulled pork sandwich, but tonight I went for the Sonoran Burger. Others in my family ordered the chicken tenders from the appetizer section added fries as well as the club sandwich as well as some side salads. For our appetizer we decided on the potstickers. I was on the fence with that as I’d of chose the nachos lol, but they were so good! The sauce they came with to dip was delicious and paired well. Our server was pretty good and we never had to ask for refills etc. she was great about clearing plates and checking in. Our food came out pretty quick and everything was plated well. I really liked my side salad. Everything was fresh and good ranch. My burger was not much to look at, but tasted so dang good. I wish they would’ve but the corn, jalepeno and pico on top of the meat or toasted the bottom bun more because it got soggy very quickly and hard to keep together. Flavor wise it was fantastic and cooked exactly how I asked. The club sandwich was a highlight. It was huge, full of meat and bread toasted well. Every time we visit we like State 48 even more. There is outside seating, party room available for event and as I said the barrel room bar area was...

Took our best friends out for a goodbye dinner since they are moving to Texas. Was so disappointed in every part of our experience. The first two items that are friends ordered the restaurant couldn’t accommodate. One was a BLT which I don’t feel like that should’ve been super hard. The other was a Ruben that the waitress said was X from the menu because of quality. I can totally appreciate that. My friend ordered a Francis Ford Coppola wine which was out of stock as well. The waitress physically handed me the plate for me to sit down and it visibly burned my hand. Her response Was laughing and saying well at least you’re drinking a painkiller. Then she proceeded to bring me burn cream from the kitchen. They don’t have anyone to cook pizzas there either. Then the waitress charged our card for someone else’s tab so we got charge for both and it still hasn’t been removed. I waited to get home last night to call and the manager said it slipped his mind To come check on us because of my hand. They offered to buy us lunch today so I went in to pick up an order I got a Philly cheesesteak with no onions or peppers I got to work and it’s covered in onions and peppers with burnt bread and dried out meat that’s like jerky. I am in customer service as a GM for a pretty big company and I don’t usually complain but everything about our experience was unacceptable. They weren’t even busy there was only maybe six tables inThe whole place. Now I know why . I will never return

Outdoor dining on patio should be re-named dinning since being right on Bell Rd. it was very noisy from all that traffic. Why not build a sound wall, add a decibel softening fountain, and let us carry on conversations without having to shout? But the beer list didn't disappoint--beers galore and informative write-ups on the menu are very helpful. The nicest surprise was that the BLT was so much better than I expected. The toasted wheat bread was hearty but not tough, with a crust speckled with oat flakes and grains. The BLT would've been a trifecta of tastiness since the curly leaf lettuce was a fresh bright green, and the thick and generously portioned bacon was a delight, but a disappointing pale pulpy greenhouse tomato ruined it. Something was smeared on the inside of the bread and I'm assuming it was mayo but too little to tell and it made for a dry bite-full and I should've asked for more instead of suffering: my bad. The fries were said to be beer battered but that's probably the wrong term although they may have been soaked in it and then dusted in flour, but whatever was done, they were deliciously golden and the coarse salt offset them perfectly.
