[Note - both of the below experiences were during the COVID-19 pandemic and are take-out orders] The first time we ate there the food was decent. My wife had a burrito made chimichanga style and enjoyed it. We got our kids a variety of items to try with tacos, tostadas, and rolled tacos. They liked the rolled tacos the most. I had a ground beef burrito with beef, beans, and cheese. It was relatively bland but okay. All of the food was warm when we brought it home. Our second visit was very dissatisfying. We went on a Tuesday and ordered a family pack of 8 tacos (with the chips and salsa), a bean and cheese burrito, etc. When I arrived home, we found that 4 of the 8 tacos were lukewarm and the other 4 were cold - literally cold, as if they were just taken out of a refrigerator. The tacos were also really light on the meat. We also noticed that we did not have any chips and salsa or queso. I was going to bring the food back to show them the food so they could actually feel how cold it was, but my wife just wanted us to deal with it and eat it because the kids were already waiting for dinner and we figured by the time I got the cold tacos to you they would have warmed up just from being outside. Honestly, after eating two of these tacos, I found myself wishing I had gone anywhere else. They were the worst tacos I have ever eaten - yes, even worse than Taco Bell. I literally thought to myself that Taco Bell tacos would have tasted better and would have been cheaper. As I said above, I didn't end up going back immediately. Instead I immediately messaged them on Facebook to let them know of our experience (that was 5/19 at 6:16 pm). 5/21 at 7:40 am I messaged them again, saying I hoped to discuss my experience with them and asked for a reply before I just submitted my experience as a review. When I still didn't receive a reply later that day, I went on their website and used their contact form to write to them. This review is being submitted 5/31. Twelve days since I initially wrote them, and 10 days since my two follow-up contact attempts. Still no response in any format. I don't know what is more frustrating - the poor tacos or their apparent disregard for any attempts to contact them. We want to support our local restaurants. We have been "eating out" a lot more than usual during the COVID-19 pandemic solely to support the local small businesses, but we are left feeling very disappointed in...
Read moreUpdated: Went for a second visit, tried the 8 taco and chips w/queso special on the window. I liked the interesting, non-textured, and super thin shells and chips, my son did not. The queso was pretty much as expected for such a small price, nothing remarkable. The meat was again, too salty. Tons of lettuce and a decent amount of cheese, about as expected for the price. Would not order again due to the meat saltiness. Tried the spicy salsa, it is indeed nice and spicey, I love that, but it's oh so bitter and that ruins it for me. I might make one more visit before I rule this location out for good. So many other shops to choose from.
Original review: Daughter had carne asada fries, she had no complaints, I sampled the meat and it was good but the stuff I grill at home is better, ranchera meat is the only way to go.
My youngest son had a plate of rolled tacos, they had ground beef, corn, and rice in them. He enjoyed them and they were very reasonably priced.
My older son, who declined to be photographed, had a carne asada burrito. He devoured it and loved it.
I tried a fish taco because they are on special right now for 1.49, it was good, not spectacular but good enough. I ordered a green chili pork burrito and that thing was loaded with really flavorful meat. It was so good, but I do wish it had more green chili and a bit less salt. As others have mentioned, the meat is a bit greasy, but I would definitely eat that burrito again.
There are a few specials on the windows, great deals on some, like 8 tacos with chips and queso for less than $10
FOLLOW UP: I had half of my burrito left because it was so much meat, when I went to snack on a bit of it there was so much solidified fat/grease. The food really does have excessive amounts of grease :/.
I belong to a local Surprise foodie review group, many people have mentioned how greasy your food is. I think it might be something to look into. We as a group have brought increased business to many new businesses. We have many many taco places to choose from. At this point, unless a few changes are made, I don't think I could classify you guys as anything higher than a somewhat better Taco Bell. Some things are amazing and some are...
Read moreFinally stopped in at Oscars Taco Shop on Litchfield and Bell. I ordered the Oscars Meal Deal for 6.99 and got a crunchy beef taco, bean tostada and 2 rolled tacos with guac and cheese and a drink. Not a bad value for the price. Taco was ok. Had tons of meat and was a great value but it just lacked a little something for my liking. I would eat them again though. The rolled tacos were great! Next time I will ask for no guac but the tacos themselves were tasty. The bean tostada was tasty but lost a lot of the crispiness by the time I got to it. It had quite a bit of beans on top so I think it was a great value. I would just advise eating it first not last like I did. My hubby had the Arizona burrito with no pico fried Chimi style (extra fee) with enchilada sauce and shredded cheese on top (extra fee). He loved it and said next time he will try it with the queso on top. Also ordered a container of rice and an 8 oz order of chips and salsa. Husband was not amused that there were carrots in the rice (blasphemy, right 🙄 lol) but after picking them out he said the rice was good. In his words, the chips and salsa were like crack lol The salsa was a different flavor for me and at first I didnt like it but then it grew on me and I enjoyed it. The only major issue I had was it was VERY hot in the restaurant. I know it is a bazillion degrees outside and they have a ginormous grill but it was uncomfortable to me (despite the ceiling fans full blast) and I would not eat there while it was so warm. My only other con is they have Pepsi lol Score for the hubs bc he inheritated my drink. :)
My take is that they are a decent value and definitely tasty but I don't think it will top my list of go to's. But, I wont mind going now and then. :) Hubs enjoyed it more than I so I am sure he will make a request for it sooner than I will lol
Our order total was 26.00 and some change. Took pics but not after biting my taco...
