The food was great tasting and order was accurate.
That's about it for the good, we went about 6:30p and there was about a 20 minute wait. No problem, we've been there before and the estimate is usually over cautious and you generally get in sooner than quoted. They offered us a booth in the bar area, and accepting that was a mistake. The bar area smelled like... well... A dirty bar. As we sat and contemplated asking to be relocated, we were pretty hungry and decided we were fine as at least we were sat and ready to order. Turns out the bartender was our server, and on a Friday night, that is not a good thing. It took a out 5 minutes to even be acknowledged or greeted even for drinks, not even someone coming around to offer or place chips and salsa. Just as I was getting out of the booth, the server/bartender approached taking our drink order. We asked for chips and salsa which were eventually brought even before she returned with our drinks. Not a good idea to begin eating that stuff before you get your drink, just in case something in the salsa hits the back of your throat just a bit off guard. So we sat there, chips and salsa, no salt on table, no napkins or silverware nor drinks. At least was now had the smell of chips and salsa to mask the off smelling atmosphere. She eventually returned with drinks and to take our order. I asked for some of the "hot salsa" at that time, which never came. Some other server dropped our cheese crisp appetizer and I again asked for hot salsa, she said she would let my server know. Really? Some hard and fast rule only the server can supply the good stuff? It never did came, not from anyone but the manager himself. I didn't complain, I just asked if he could get some. Which he did, I think we got silverware at that time too, which is good, because the timing of our entrees getting to the table was shortly after the app hit the table. Hard for bartenders to time tickets as they have too much going on to know how to time the orders into the kitchen since they are not REALLY paying attention. Now that we have everything we needed, we were good to go and as mentioned, the food was good. For a bartender, you would think that she would have at least returned at some point to see if we wanted another Margarita, but never offered. Long story short, I like their food, don't visit very often as each time I do, the food is typically good, but the experience is consistently on the down slide. Avoid the bar area for seating for dinner, unless you are a barfly, at least then the smell is more welcomed or expected and not...
Read moreLast night was horrible. I was stranded for two hours and thrown out before i was asked what had happened. Refused service and then the empolyee came out afterwards while i was waiting for my cab to gloat and call me names. All or the love of soup I should say. I went in to do a carry out. The server who greeted me insisted that i make my online order and go back outside. He did not even say hello. Young man, very rude just insisted that go back outside and i make my carry out order online and go to the pick up online order on the side of the building, wich i come here and make all the time inside for tortilla soup. A young woman seever came up and asked what was going on and i told her i would like to make a carry out. The young man then i forms her he is new and does not know how to do that. Instead of waiting to see how its done he rolls his eyes and leaves her to help me. While walking away looks at me and starts to crack his knuckles. Okaaay. Well she puts my order. somehow she is gone and now he is bringing my order. I look in the bag and ask for the manager. My order is wrong. The manager Eric comes and announces that i am to leave the restawithout my food and he is refusing service because he says that his server told him i was cursing at him. Again i am sick. I am to leave no soup and told i am not ever to return. I go outside. My car is in the shop not to far away. Thats how i ended up in the area currently. I call a cab. I wait about 30 minutes outside in the parking lot connected and sit. The young man comes outside and goes to the bank in the same parking lot. He starts to yell profain things like i am probably a drug addict and homeless. Wow. Finally i give up waiting for a cab after this young man comes out and acts how he does i walk completely accross the street i call a friend who comes and picks me up. Moral of the story is do not engage when u r sick for tortilla soup at macayo's. They may have a server who will get u thrown out for being new and the manager eric will not care that it is christmas time. He will not ask for your side of the story because he already knows everything. Hes in charge and u will be asked yo leave. Again all for the love of soup....
Read moreI'll start by saying that I have been coming to macayos since I was 5 years old, possibly younger. I have fond memories coming with my family as a child and have always enjoyed their food. However, we use to always go to the 59th and Bell location when I was younger. My own family and I moved to Suprise in summer of 2020 and have been desperately trying to make this macayos work for us. We have probably been to this location over a dozen times in the last 2 years and EVERY time they disappoint when it comes to their take out. Does not matter if you order over the phone or online you will always get an incomplete order. Tonight was no exception. They completely left out my meal and my child's side to his meal. I called and had them make my order so I could come back to get it. I was told the food would take another 25 minutes to cook. So I arrived and 30 minutes later they handed me a bag of food and some free appetizer coupons. My biggest mistake was thinking this time it had to be correct. I mean how could they mess up the same order twice, right? Got home again and they gave me a completely different meal than I ordered. I ordered a chicken Baja chimi and I got a shredded beef plain chimi smothered in sour cream and guacamole 🤦🏻♀️; But hey, I did get my childs side of mexican rice so it wasn't a total loss except for the fact that it took an hour to get my food and get home so my child was done eating. While I appreciate them giving the free appetizer coupons to make things right, I would appreciate my meal being correct the first time even more. I haven't wanted to write a bad review because I have always loved the place but this has happened now over a dozen times at this same location. They early cannot handle take out orders and should really stop attempting to do them at this point. They have a 0% accuracy rate for take out in our house. With that being said, if you would like to visit in person you will get good food (mostly correct) and descent service. I highly recommend their outdoor seating when the weather is nice and have them turn on the fountain. It makes for a wonderful meal, which is the ONLY reason why I gave them 3 starts...
