We were in AZ for a long weekend for some personal business. Finished up early this beautiful Friday afternoon. Wanted a little snack of sushi near where we were in Surprise AZ.
Surprise AZ did not disappoint! Ugly Tuna Sushi is a MUST for anyone loving great sushi, service and staff! We were greeted as we opened the door of the restaurant by Daniel behind the sushi bar. Ali was quick to meet us at the host counter and seat us at the sushi bar. They had 2 servers on staff this afternoon and Ali was polite friendly and let us know they had several tables each and if we could be patient she would be with us shortly.
Meanwhile we looked over the awesome menu, picked some items and our friendly staff at the sushi counter, Daniel and Sobey offered to take our sushi/roll order and Ali followed quickly with the drink and appetizers.
Can not say enough about the friendliness, food and just over all experience. Sobey was making rolls and putting together food near us so we had some great conversations about travel, Arizona and life all the while he made food for many others enjoying this location.
When our order of food was delivered there was a little special appetizer that Daniel shared with us (not on the menu) which was amazing and greatly appreciated! WOW is all I can say.
Ali was so sweet in thanking us for our patience and appreciation of the busy day.
If you are in Surprise or anywhere near…. Head over to Ugly Tuna Sushi in Surprise,AZ…. You will be delighted and please let the staff know you appreciate them. They are working hard to bring you great food and service!
Thank you all at Ugly Tuna Sushi!

Read moreI have been curious about this place since I moved here, to Surprise. It is set in a nice accessible location and a simple establishment if your on your way out of town or live in the surrounding area. I ordered your basic California roll, a Unagi(Eel) roll and the Dragon roll. The hostess/waitress greeted me with a lovely smile and friendliness as if I were a regular. After my experience at Ugle Tuna Sushi, its staff and cooks, I certainly will be. The hostess showed me to my seat and I was promptly waited on and asked what I'd like to drink. I order an ice tea. Which was quickly rendered and after I took a quick glance at the menu and I knew what would satisfy my pallete for the day. I was at this time addressed by one of the chefs and replied kindly. After the waitress wrote down my order I took the time to look up my locatio an within a few minutes, less than five, it seemed. My order was handed to me by one of the cooks. Which seemed freaky fast as if I was at a JJ's. I am always impressed at the presentation of sushi and its simplicity of simple ingredients yet artfully designed. It is to bad that they have to be eaten. There is always something enjoyable about fresh sushi! The meal of course was very delectable and satisfied my craving for a healthy and wholesome meal. The service was fast and the staff openly hospitable. I will be enjoying many more meals here in the future. Thank you for your time and patience. A wondeful find near the...
Read moreTook mom out for lunch, trying out a new place. We eat sushi on a regular basis. So today we venture out. The name alone was inviting enough. As you first walk in you get a pretty open cool place to chill. After scanning the drink menu, I bet this place rocks in the night time. We shot for our favorites, one of mine wasn’t available. Rare but they don’t carry qual egg, I went with ama ebi. So the host and servers are very good and tend to make sure you’re taken care of. Bummer the hot water was in the fritz, but the server booked some water and mom got hot tea. Food hits the table, awesome presentation of sashimi! The sizes of the fish were the largest I’ve seen cut. Freshness was definitely present, got a few stringy spots, but very well done. Now on my ama ebi, I wasn’t so happy with. The sweet shrimp was perfect! Yet, they drooled some kind of sweet sauce over the fried shrimp heads. Hmmm I’ve never seen this. I knew better then to except this, but I’m always willing to try. It was not at all for my taste. I wasn’t to taste the fried shrimp naked only for the taste. Plasting some goop on perfection.. ugh not for me. Looking around to the other patrons dishes, all I could see was home runs, bento boxes were definitely packed with food. The looks on the faces told it all. I will be back, definitely to try the drinks and the...
