I placed an Uber online order for pickup for one cold sandwich, one hot sandwich, and some fries. 20 mins later I get an alert that the food is ready as I'm driving to the shop.
I arrive to the shop, and when I gave my name they couldn't find my order. Then apparently they suddenly they found my order. They started going through a pile of sandwiches on the counter and found mine, and then told me to wait. At no point did anyone communicate why I was waiting.
10 mins into waiting I ask one of the girls what's taking so long since I received notification over 20 minutes ago that the food was ready. She initially pretended not to hear me, but since I didn't move and I was holding the phone up on the "Your order is ready" screen, she finally side-eyed me and said "they were waiting on fries". She says this as someone who had ordered in-store a few moments ago walks up to the register and grabs their sandwich and fries from in front of me.
I wait another 7-8 minutes until finally they call my name. At this point my hot sandwich has been sitting on the cold counter for over 30 minutes (per the Uber app......) so I ask them if they can please toast it again because the sandwich is going to be ice cold from sitting there while I waited around "for the fries to be ready".
If the food isn't ready, why is your staff updating the app to trigger an alert that it is 20 mins in advance? Fries don't take 30 mins to make. If there's confusion or you're running behind, just say so. Don't make up something just to get someone away from the counter. If I'm going to pay $13 for a sandwhich, tell the kids running the shop to at least try and act like they want to be there. I have zero desire to go back or recommend this shop if I have to deal with all the attitude and incompetency again...
Read moreGrowing up in Ohio Penn Station was a stable in my family. We would have it every week or so because it was 1. Easy 2. Delicious and 3. Was always a crowd pleaser - I'm talking not only my family but we would cater a lot of school functions growing up from them and it would be amazing!!
I was sad when I moved away from school that it would no longer be avaiable. Around 2013 I moved to Atlanta and one day stumbled upon one in the north druid hills area. To say I was EXCITED is an under statement!!!!! After that any time I was on that side of the city I would stop in. I would make sure to stop by when I was going to see my family who had moved to SC so they could have it too!
For the following years I would stop in the one in druid hills, but a few weeks ago I discovered that that location had closed!! I was CRUSHED!! But then I found one a little farther outside the city in Suwanne so I decided to make the drive. It was so worth it! Hot and wonderful - the fries weren't so great but whatever.
A week passes and I was headed to see my family so I decided to stop in. I walk in the door and I'm told 'we are closed' it was 2:05 pm on a Friday. I looked at thier hours of operation on the door and looked back and the workers and said 'it says your open from 11am-9pm, it's barely past 2'. Then a lady came from the back and VERY RUDELY said 'we are closed'. I said the same thing to her 'your hours say you are open' - she rolled her eyes, huffed and said ' too bad we are closed'. I stood there for a moment in confusion/bewilderment - when I looked back at her she made a gesture with her eyes to leave.
I used to LOVE this place but with attitude and treatment like that needless to say it will be a while...
Read moreI am looking for authentic Philadelphia cheesesteaks in the Atlanta area.
Unfortunately, this ain't it.
What is an authentic Philly cheesesteak? First, it should come with Whiz or provolone. The roll is filled with chopped ribeye. And the roll is made in local bakeries.
Because Penn Station lists "Philadelphia Cheesesteak" on their menu, I will judge them based on Philly steaks I had from Sonny's, Jim's, Jimmy G's, Steve's, John's Roast Pork, Dalessandro's, Geno's, Pat's, and Tony Luke's in Philadelphia.
Penn Station's steaks came with provolone, but Whiz was not available. The amount of meat was not enough. And the meat was not ribeye. The roll was OK, but I don't think it was made in a local bakery. This wasn't a 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒂 cheesesteak; it was just a cheesesteak.
As a cheesesteak, Penn Station's wasn't bad. I would give it 4 stars.
As a 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒂 cheesesteak, compared to those I had from the places listed above, it would be 1 star; not even in the same league. If this place was actually located in Philadelphia, I doubt any locals would come here for a steak.
The bottom line: It's a decent cheesesteak. But it's a poor 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒑𝒉𝒊𝒂...
