Update: April 26, 2019 Stopped in for a cool drink. Everything seems good. But it's only late afternoon & I have to leave. Will update next time I'm in. ............. Update - March, 2019.... Ran into one of the owners recently. He invited me to come back & check out the positive changes that they have made. I have not yet been back to find out, but I do intend to do so soon. ................

Update.... near the end of July, 2018:

Unfortunately, O'Malley's is going downhill. Some of the best bartenders they had have left for reasons unknown to me. Then, shortly thereafter, SIX of their staff QUIT ON THE SAME DAY ! They now have fewer staff, and most of those have little or no experience. I hope that the place rebounds ! We had been regulars - going several times a week, but - given what's been happening, the declining service and the few new & inexperienced employees they have persuaded to work there, we've not been there in over three weeks. I'll give it a couple of months and check back in. Sorry to see this happening to what was our favorite "watering hole" ..............................

2017..... We've been going to O'Malley's in Sylva for many years. It has changed hands a couple of times, and this is the closest to the original. A year or two ago, it had gotten to where we only went 1 or 2 times a month .... if that .... hoping things would improve.... but it didnt ! 😩😨

WELL !!!! .... I am glad to say that, under the new ownership, EVERYTHING IS BACK ON TRACK ! 😁

The owners, Cory & Jason.... have the right idea. They listen and pay attention to customer suggestions & requests, and make wise, customer-centered decisions & changes. The bar manager, Rob.... runs a tight & efficient bar, mixing drinks & drawing beer for customers and for the dining areas. The wait staff are efficient & friendly. There are times when the place is "slammed" with customers ( like on Thursday wing night .... my Favorite night ), and you may have to wait.... but it's worth it!

My husband and I have been coming to this establishment for over 3 years. We come for food, drinks, and to play pool.

Prior they used to asked for ID in order to grab pool sticks.

No issue there.

Tonight they asked for a 10$ deposit. Also no issue there.

The issue was raised when my husband and I found an extra set of pool sticks in the back.

I returned the pool sticks to the front and told the bartender they were not the ones we put a deposit down for, we asked the other patrons if they were loaned out by them, they also said no.

I expressed this to the bartender and when I turned in the pool sticks she attempted to give me 10$ and instead I told her to keep it as tip, since obviously who ever checked them out had left and never returned them.

When my husband and I went to return the actual pool sticks we checked out the bartender refused to return our actual deposit stating she had already given it to us despite me being clear and explicit that the previous pool sticks were not ours, we were returning the previous pool sticks left out, out of good conscious and when she attempted to provide us the deposit for that set I in turn gave it back as a tip.

Overall. Even though it is all only over 10$; the situation felt aggregous and exploitive on behalf of the bartender (because honestly, at that rate I should have kept the pool sticks I found instead of trying to turn them in..... Just my honest opinion)

We aren't millionaires, however we are patreons who generally/genuinely enjoy this establishment and beyond that taking care of staff when able without causing issues and this bartender took advantage (based off our perspective) of this certain situation and it is just beyond...

I want to be completely fair and honest here. The food is awesome. If you like wings or burgers or most kinds of pub food - this is a good place to get it and a fair price. When WCU is in session, this place is crowded on Thursday - Sunday night with drunk college kids there for the bar and cheap wings and possibly live entertainment on the patio. The wait staff gives off the impression (the ones I've experienced - there may be exceptions of course that I'm not aware of) that they are hired for looks and not their abilities as wait staff. I kid you not, I asked for the Fish & Chips and she asked if I wanted the deep fried potato chips or french fries. Now maybe she was used to dumb people ordering that and not knowing what Fish & Chips are so she wanted to be sure, but I am positive it was described in the menu and she didn't know that it was fries not potato chips. They also have Guinness and awesome appetizers like the trash fries and beer cheese with pretzel bites. The food is awesome. The wait staff is ok. You can also play BuzzTime trivia on your smart phone or with one of their devices. Fun for a Friday night when the college kids are out of town for a holiday or...
