We visited WCU for our son on Friday. We were starving and ended up at this restaurant. Should have walked out and followed my instincts, but our son wanted to eat Mexican. The food was so poor quality. The chips and salsa where Meh! Store bought. The rice and beans where flavorless. The poblano where drenched in old, dark colored grease and stuff with runny can bought white cheese. I have never had them in any Mexican restaurant or in Mexico like this. It was not edible. The consistency was not there. My beans came out with a drizzle of that cheese, but my husband’s came out drenched in it. The only reason this place has customers is that there are no other places so called Mexican in that area. Then they hit you with 2 surcharge at the end. Any extra $6 dollars SMH that’s nothing , but we are not at a high end establishment with top notch food that was crazy. I’m paying them to use there PO system. I had not even half of my meal and couldn’t continue. Don’t be fooled! This is not authentic. Not sure what it is.

I came here for a percentage night fundraiser, and it was pretty busy one hour before closing. I thought this was a really good sign, because that meant that the food was good and that a lot of people enjoyed this place. The decorations and inside are really nice, and this location is very big. Carlos was our server, and he was very nice. We got the chips and salsa, which were delicious. I ordered a ribeye steak with french fries, which came with guacamole salad. The steak was delicious, and the french fries were very good. The guacamole salad was interesting. I definitely want to try something more authentic next time I come. The food I saw around me smelled very good, and looked good too. The owner, Jose, responded to one of my concerns over email in a timely manner which I really appreciated. I will definitely come back to dine and try more of their menu.

We shared the Taquito lunch plate. Side of refried beans. Quick and to a degree, tasty. Easy access after shopping downtown Sylva, NC. Unfortunately, the hostess was not friendly. She seemed to be having a very bad day. The first impression anyone has of a restaurant is the hostess. I recommend coaching and a refresher course on hospitality to her. Points of interest would involve having a smile. Rolling of the eyes should be limited and a disrespectful attitude should be discouraged. I suspect the hostess is somehow affiliated with nepotism concerning her overall demeanor and lack of enthusiasm to welcome others.

My overall experience here was quite awful.

We had a party of three and were seated after standing at the front for 5 minutes and several staff looking at us without acknowledgment. Figured they were focused on other things.

When our waitress finally came to our table after another few minutes wait, she was rushed and snippy. She took our drink orders and when I presented my ID, I was told it wasn't accepted since it was an out of state ID and not a driver's licence. Which is fine. But the attitude and demeanor that was shown in explaining it was uncalled for and derogatory.

After our food orders were taken, we waited for 50 minutes before we finally got our food. And it was lukewarm at best. That makes it seem like we were forgotten or ignored, which again, contributes to this rating. And the entire time we were there the waitress checked on us only once outside of the normal taking of the orders.

We finished our meals and waited for another good 20 minutes or so until we had to flag down our waitress to get our checks.

All this wait and the restaurant was maybe half full at its busiest when we were there. Unacceptable when they had wait staff checking in on every table but ours.

And, to put the cherry on top, I went to go use the restroom before I left, and the toilet wouldn't flush, there was a pile of feces and toilet paper in the toilet, and the whole room smelled horrendous. I almost lost my sub-par meal walking in there.

I have hardly any idea how this place is so highly rated when they can barely keep up and have such poor care for their facilities. My only guess is that campus food is so much worse that this place seems great on comparison.

Next time I visit my brother here, I'm steering well clear...

UPDATE: As you can see, owner said that a customer put the poster up in their restaurant. Well it was with their permission, and then they went straight to the "You're a racist comment" LOL I was nothing but kind to the HOST (not hostess) as he was a young guy that has waited on us several times there and was great each time. I even said to him, "I am not upset with you, but this is why we won't be back" He smiled and apologized and said he didn't know what the poster was about. So just beware that even if you have been a customer of here, if you disagree, "you're a racist". Who is the racist if they supposedly saw a white person on the video and then decided to call them a racist because they expressed a difference of opinion. They don't know me and don't know anything about me, such as the fact that I was in an interracial relationship for over 5 years. LOL So, locals beware! I will be blasting this on Social media.

We had been dining at this restaurant for a while now, pretty often. Our family walked in yesterday to a full color poster on the host/hostess podium promoting a Biden/Harris rally. We immediately walked out and went to another small Mexican restaurant in town where we had never dined before. It was a great dining experience and the food was terrific so we will be patronizing that restaurant from now on. We will never spend another penny in El Patron because of this. It is never smart for ANY business to get political for either side because you will always end up alienating part of your customer base. We don’t have much of a way to express views anymore except with our wallets so this is what we choose...

Took my family out for a special occasion this past Saturday February 25 and had a horrible meal. When I spend and tip for a $100 meal for 4 I expect hot food and preferably decent service. When did 2 rounds Queso dip and the chips begin being served as cold as the salsa? The server expected me to yell our order out to him with his back turned at the screen in the back room and was not familiar with the most expensive item on the menu that I ordered!? I took my daughter to The bathroom while waiting for our food and noticed that the young men standing in front of the grill (assuming they were food runners) playing on the phones which confirms why our food was cold when it arrived. It was not busy at 7:45 when we arrived nor was it busy while we were waiting. The party of four who arrived after us received prompt service from multiple servers and their meal arrived prior to ours eventhough we ordered before they did as I over heard “Be careful, plate is hot amigo!” Again I can’t say the same for our lukewarm subpar $100 meal. I’m sure this review will go idle and treated about as professionally as we were, on this and the prior $83 takeout order we had in late January of this year as well. Oh, to top it off, my child found a black curly hair on her plate!! That didn’t go well either!!?? Won’t be eating here again and will be spending our money where it’s respected, more than likely at the Mexican store next door, as I have read that the food is AUTHENTIC , a hidden gem, and much better anyways. Do better El...
