Read moreI don't understand the hype or the wonderful reviews of this place. We were very excited to eat at Cactus, because of the really good reviews. When we got there it was very difficult to find parking, and It took us over an hour to get seated. They text you to tell you that you are on the waitlist, but that to check your place in line you must use the Yelp app. We tried to do this and could not ever get it to work, until I rebooted the app. By this time we had received a text that our table was almost ready.
The food was terribly disappointing. The presentation was fantastic. The food looked really good, but was not even warm. It totally lacked flavor. The portions were surprisingly small for what you normally get at a Mexican restaurant. My wife got the fajitas, and there was nothing sizzling on the pan. There were no red or green onions. They were incredibly blaw.
Our waitress did not look like she wanted to be there. She put off really negative energy. Her service was very lackluster. You can have really good food and it all can be ruined by your waiter/waitress. You can have mediocre food and have a really good wait person, and end up happy. I don't understand why restaurants don't focus more heavily on quality of service from their staff. If they are not providing top notch service then get rid of them! On a positive note, the person who brought us our food, was not our waitress, and he nailed everyone's order, and we all got our food pretty close to the same time. In addition, someone brought us flan for desert since it was our first time dining there. The flan was fantastic, and he seemed much friendlier than our waitress. I am not sure why it was this person, and not our waitress to bring us the flan. If it was the manager, he should have introduced himself, and tried just a little harder to make a connection with us. Ask us about our experience and show genuine concern. A missed opportunity for sure.
Overall, the whole experience was just very disappointing. Our food, and service is so much better and cheaper at El Toro in Spanaway, than this over-hyped place in Proctor. It just made me appreciate El...
Read moreWhen I checked in before 5pm and asked if I could order from Happy Hour menu the very friendly hostess at the front desk suggested I could go probably back and order in the bar. I had my grandson with me so we couldn’t sit there.
But when I got back to bar I was told I wouldn’t be able to order there for a table not in the bar. They had the manager come out and talk to me. Not a cheerful person, she said if they offered happy hour prices to the whole restaurant she’d have to hire more staff.
Next when ordering drinks at my table in the family part of the restaurant, I noted to the waitress that two of us would be getting the kids meals that included the lemonade options and we wanted one regular lemonade and one strawberry lemonade. Two grandsons under 12 were part of my party, along with myself and my daughter in law.
I wanted a favorite item from the kids menu and one of my grandsons did too. But the second grandson ordered an adult meal, as did his Mom. He also ordered a drink from the regular menu. When I got the bill, there were charges for the two lemonade drinks (totalling $11) that I thought should have been included with the two kid meals. But no, I couldn’t switch with my one grandson who got an adult menu drink, the waitress told me, since I drank the kids menu strawberry lemonade and I’m an adult she’d have to charge me $6, but she’d credit $5 for the lemonade my younger grandson drank that shouldn’t have been charged. She told me she shouldn’t even have let me order a kids meal that I was going to eat, she could potentially get in trouble with the manager.
I was so dismayed by this experience that I’m probably not going to go to Cactus again, and it’s been a family favorite in the past, with several visits a year typically. I spent over $118 to end up feeling like my business...
