Well, on Father's Day, ordered at 6 pm. Sat, drinks and salad (good!) came quickly. The place thinned out, and service contact quickly went to just filling waters. My son couldn't get a refill on sprite even with staff hovering not really clearly doing any thing. I placed dirty salad plates to the edge of the table, which stayed for the remainder. 45 mins later we got our pizza. Only 6 adult sized pies came out in that time, 5-6 kids sized. This includes to go orders. There was a singing of "happy birthday" in the back kitchen. Apparently that was important during a dinner rush. The mushrooms and olives were cold and from a can, dough was clearly undercooked. The fennel hot dog slices (some name brand) were good. It took us 10 mins to get someone to bring us the bill which came in the form of two staff members presenting parallel bills. One wandering staff started piling up plates in front of my face. Couldn't even wait two minutes for us to clear out.
Clearly the staff is not trained on how to do their jobs. Their jobs are also partly redundant and poorly aligned with what customers want as an experience. Perhaps the management doesn't care to work out the kinks? Perhaps it's just opening night jitters, yet months later? I did notice as I stood up that the line workers near the staff member working the pizza oven (the rate limiter of the establishment) had to move when he was pulling out pizzas. Seems like a poor design, kitchen up through the front of the house.
The reason I am over interpreting our experience and going into so much detail is because I and my family ended up with a range of food poising symptoms that started 1-2 hours after leaving last night. None of us vomited, but I sure wish I had. I was in bed for much of the night and today lethargic and sick to my stomach, ultimately debating about the impact of leaving a review and how to word it so that others could separate information from my opinion. I had lots of time not doing my day job to think.
So, this experience was the end of my otherwise very nice Father's Day with my family. We won't be back and I'm going to let everyone who asks know what our experience was so that they can make their...
Read moreI was really excited to try this place! Came for my mother's Day dinner, and didn't have to wait too long at all, It was busy of course. When they were ready to seat us they asked us for our order. I was confused, I didn't see anything that said to order at the front, the hostess didn't explain that we might want to look at the menu while we were waiting (it is on the wall), but had no idea we needed to know what we were eating before we sat down. No biggie, put our order in, sat down, drinks and food started coming out fast! My chop salad came out (best part of my meal), meatballs (decent, reminded me of olive garden) came, kids bambini pep pizza came out (loved that kids food came out first without asking) service was fast, friendly. But when our pizzas came out, that's what went down hill. Pizzas were just plain soggy. They were floppy, undercooked, and to us it came down to that and the tomato sauce really wasn't great. It tasted premade, bland, not great, reminded me of olive garden sauce, like it's pizza they'd serve. I wouldnt order a tomato pizza again. I was pretty underwhelmed about the overall experience. For me Apizza in downtown is a better Neapolitan pizza. I don't plan on coming back. Really really sad it wasn't better. Loved that it's so family focused, they pride themselves on being affordable. Please at least start cooking the pizzas longer, you're so fast, even on mother's day, you have time for a few more minutes to cook it. It has the potential to be better. So, if you don't mind floppy bland pizza, but want affordable, fast, and friendly. You'll...
Read moreHmm, where to start... They have the best pizzas with their signature crispy wood-fired pizzas, and we aren't kidding that they are our absolute favorite pizzas in all of Washington. Next on the list are their pizza rolls. We've had good pizza rolls, but never pizza rolls like Fondi's. Pro tip: If you really want your pizza rolls to be epic, you have to dip them in Fondi's homemade gorgonzola dressing. Trust us. We even know a three-year-old who isn't a fan of pizza (yeah, we think it's crazy too), but he will devour half a plate of Fondi's pizza rolls... Their salads are the freshest salads around; you'd think they were a strictly salad restaurant with how amazing these salads are. We've tried every single salad on the menu, and if we had to pick our favorite, maybe the Insulata di mele with its fennel-candied walnuts, but then we'd feel bad for forgetting their classic Caesar's forum, which is a Caesar salad even your kids will want to eat! We may have saved the best for last, because Fondi's flatbread, which we order crispy with the fresh mozzarella, white bean dip (kind of like hummus if we had to compare it to something more well known), and their pomodoro spread (a really fresh marinara-type dip). We almost forgot our favorite dessert! The Burnt Creme, aka Creme Brulee, is incredible; it's really the best way to finish your meal, but we sometimes order the Affogato as well, it's espresso over ice cream, and...
