I'm all about supporting local businesses and I really want this one to survive but to be brutally honest, I'm afraid this one may not make it. First, the plus side - the owner did a great job of designing the space and making it have a cool vibe in an up and coming downtown area. Location is great and hopefully will help to boost surrounding local businesses. I ordered chicken tacos with black beans and rice. The chicken had a good flavor to it although it was a bit dry. / The downside - The beans and rice had virtually no taste to them. The beans seemed to be a low quality canned bean. Black beans are inexpensive, it wouldn't take much to cook the beans fresh and add some flavoring, same w/ the rice. The chips were very heavy tasting with not much flavor as well. I arrived late on a Sunday and the serving containers were full of food, which would make me think - they either throw it all out or reheat it the next day. Neither one a good option. Prices are to be expected but the fountain drinks are way over priced. I ordered a "small" and it was $3.00. I really want this place to succeed but the owner / manager may need to make some upgrades to their food in order to draw people in and keep them there. Another suggestion is to have weekly specials to get people to take the chance on a new place. Best wishes and I look forward to...
Read moreWow — what a hidden gem in the heart of Tahlequah! From the moment I stepped into Rafa’s Burrito Co., I knew I was in for something special. The chicken burrito? Absolute perfection. Tender, flavorful, and generously packed without being overwhelming — it struck the perfect balance between comfort food and culinary delight. And the variety of refrescas? So refreshing, creative, and beautifully presented. Whether you’re in the mood for something fruity, tangy, or tropical, there’s a drink to match every bite and every mood.
But what really elevated the experience was the phenomenal customer service. The staff was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful with recommendations, making the whole visit feel like a breath of fresh air. No long waits, no chaos — just calm, friendly vibes and efficient service.
The atmosphere itself? Chef’s kiss. The noise level was just right — lively enough to feel energetic without being loud or distracting. And let’s talk about that huge window! Perfect for a little people-watching from afar while sipping your refresca and savoring your burrito. A relaxing front-row seat to the rhythm of the town.
Rafa’s is the kind of place you think about long after you’ve left. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and stop in — your taste buds will thank you, and your soul...
Read moreAt first, I thought this was going to be more of a traditional Mexican Restaurant, once I open the door I realized what this was going to be. I did get excited about it because the atmosphere was very inviting. This sort of a basement was very well designed. The decor was intelligent. As soon as I lined up to order I knew what I was going to get. They were offering birria, which is supposed to be lamb stew sorta. I didn’t bother to ask if it was actually lamb. I got my burrito made very quickly, I also ordered the Mexican corn. The burrito size was huge!!! Packed with a lot of good stuff! The corn was a bit disappointing; for 5 bucks I was expecting more. Over all the food was good. The birria did not taste like birria but it wasn’t bad either. I check for the bathrooms and I just guessed that they were in the back down the hall. Not dirty, not bad just a bit drafty.
Recommendations: •you could hang a bathroom sign to show directions as to where it is.
Thank you...
