Went here for a bite to eat after hiking donner pass. My partner had never been to Lake Tahoe. Seemed like a nice place. Never been more wrong.
The hostess seemed already fed up with the day “how can I help you?” I felt judged like we weren’t there to eat food. I mustered a sheepish “Table for two?”. No worries, I’ve been there. Serving yuppies all day sucks.
Every other table had water bottles except the one we got sat at but the server grabbed us some glasses of water pretty quickly. We settled on a kombucha to split while we looked over the menu. The server was a little confused on why I was asking the abv for the kombucha. Checked my ID. Seemed very suspicious and asked me if I was over 21. It’s a passport that’s definitely not fake and I’m not going to commit a federal crime to get an $8 kombucha.
I ordered the poke bowl and my partner ordered the burrata and beet salad with no croutons and a side of bread. We were both misgendered, something we are unfortunately used to so whatever.
It was about a 45 minute wait to get our food in a pretty empty restaurant.
The poke bowl: more mango and edamame than anything else. What really sucked was the lack of rice. The cheapest part of the plate… fish was pretty fresh but $23 was too much by a large margin.
The burrata and beet salad: Where to begin… It had croutons. Lots of mixed greens, a tiny slice of burrata, maybe a quarter of a beet, and balsamic vinegar. No actual vinaigrette, a little pepper on the burrata, not even paying for presentation. If it was a smaller portion of greens at least the ratio would’ve been right… side of bread was $4 and was 4 tiny slices of mediocre sourdough lightly toasted
We voiced our complaints and the server was very quick to blame the cooks.
I paid the $62 for the meal.
For the first time in my life I didn’t leave a tip. Whole meal took almost two hours…
Probably going to avoid Tahoe city from...
Read moreSuper friendly server. Great food. My wife had the Poke Bowl, which was plentiful and tasty. I had the spam fried rice -- homemade spam? -- not a dish you would expect to see but very tasty and a healthy portion for a small price. Will definitely be back. Tahoe City needs more mid-range restaurants like this.
The only thing is that we walked by outside and weren't even sure there was a restaurant there. I knew the Blue Agave had closed years ago and something new was there so we figured the Surf Club must be a restaurant. Sure enough there is a nice bar and restaurant inside. They need better signage indicating that he Surf Club is indeed a restaurant and bar to draw people in like me who are casually walking or driving by looking for...
Read moreLolly and I along with Fire Chief Steve Leighton just had our first lunch at the Sierra Surf Club in Tahoe City. Located in the historic building that was home to The Blue Agave for so may years, it’s part of the new Evo Campus including the recently refurbished motel. Our Poké Bowls and Burger were excellent. The presentation was beautiful. Bowls were plentiful with fresh ingredients and a copious amount of Ahi. The surroundings are bright and new with a beautiful view of Big Blue, and the staff is super friendly. This location which has been a beloved spot in our community will continue to be a great place for dining, refreshments, and gathering. Thanks Evo, for being such...
