Rude and Condescending Manager/Owner- We went there today and ordered $72 worth of food. The food was excellent. The tea was creamy and the boba were perfectly al dente. The cashier was kind, courteous and efficient. We even intended to go back the next day on our way home since we are from out of town. When we got to our hotel, my sister was missing one of the things we ordered. I looked at our receipt and it looks like we paid for the missing item so we called to verify a possible $6 loss. The person who answered the phone was pleasant and asked to placed my sister on hold. Another person took the call and that is when the berating started , as if we wanted a hand out. We could afford to pay for 100 or more of that $6 soft shell crab. The person said he was the manager and owner and said, “ I don’t know what you are looking at but you didn’t pay for that…” While we understand that times are tough, the current circumstances are not an excuse for rudeness. Having owned and managed our own restaurants, we have dealt with people who made false claims in order to get a refund. We understand that there are some who would take advantage of businesses but good business practice necessitates the platinum rule — treat others the way they want to be treated. In any case if you want good place for ramen and boba, and don’t mind being treated like a thief this is the place to go. Just make sure you don’t verify if they forgot something so you don’t lose...
Read moreI’m going to drop a hard truth. Tallahassee is not a big city. I was born in one of those cities that States are known for but instead of a state it was a Province and it was called Toronto Canada. When I wanted a Karaage Don in Toronto, I had options on where I wanted to get it from at any time of day. I ate so many Karaage Dons in Toronto I actually put on a little weight. No matter the meal I was met with my marvel. Welcome to the new world, I think six months into living in Tallahassee, I may never eat a Karaage Don again.
And then we passed Boru Boru on Sunday evening. Micheal was with me and that usually means we’re up to no good (spending money we don’t have on food). Gosh wouldn’t you know it well, I learned Mr. Micheal had never eaten a Sushi Burrito and what’s more was that he was hungry. I said shucks, or something like shucks, and ushered us past Cane’s to somewhere new to us both. Popular but not too busy, we entered eager. Looking at the menu, laughing with the staff, I discovered something special: Popcorn Chicken on rice is another way to say Karaage Don. Was I satisfied? Let’s just say Florida State University is paying me to study creative writing and teach English composition and I will be using that money to eat at Boru Boru instead of buying course books. Why? Because AI can’t summarize a...
Read moreWay better vegetarian bowls then at any other Ramen or Pho place I've tried. Take-out bowls have a cool separation of the broth and noodles, where the broth is underneath. Had a good laugh with a worker on the phone when I thought it didn't come with broth by accident. The Shoyu (vegan) broth alone with no spice has satisfying sweet hints with strong tastes of ginger and similar flavor enhancers. The chili paste, chili oil, and spicy bomb all taste somewhat similar to authentic Gochujang I get shipped for instant ramen bowls, and pack some good heat (Chili paste being the closest to Gochujang obviously). Much better experience than I've had at other places, where the chili paste is more sweet-spicy than burn your mouth and I end up throwing it out. The noodles were cooked well, and the toppings were delicious. I opted to soak their tofu in the spicy broth a bit to marinate it, but that is preference. Delicious,...
