California Chicken Grill — Restaurant in Tallahassee

This is by far my favorite restaurant in town. California has been a late night staple in tallahasee for a very long time now and they stand the test of time because they put through amazing service along with an amazing product. The food there is Healthy and the portion are always filling. Going by the name, you might be able to tell that they specialize in chicken and they know how to put out some stupendous food. Every time I go to California, the staff makes me feel like I am at home with attention to all those important little details like welcoming and greeting me upon arrival to putting out some entertaining small talk whilst I wait for my food. Some of my favorite things on the menu that I believe can’t be missed are their: -Skinless boneless box where you get impeccably cooked chicken with any side you want and they got a lot of sides. The chicken comes on a fluffy bed of rice as well to complement the meat. Hint: I normally get their house made teriyaki sauce, it’s out of this world. The curry mustard is also very tasty Their barbecue chicken is also delicious. They make it from scratch and it’s dangerously good. -They may not fry anything but I would say my third go to would be their baked tenders that are crunchy on the outside with soft white meat on the inside.

Another thing to add is that this place is locally owned and run. Everything is made from scratch in house and is fresh. It is the only place I know that does that. So I tried to call in and place an order and the girl who picked up told me to hold. But she never came back to the phone to take my order. I figured something funny was happening so I didn’t hang up my phone while I was still on hold and drove to the restaurant, come to find out they wasn’t even busy so I’m confused on why I was still on hold with this girl and she’s the one taking my order. I noticed she had air pods in here ears and she was on her personal taking a personal call meanwhile I’m still on hold to place an order over the phone. Very unprofessional. So I asked to speak to her manager (whole time buddy was sitting right there in the booth looking like a customer) and I told him what was going on. “Sir, I just want to let you know I was trying to call in to place the order I just made but I’ve been on hold for 15 minutes, and she just told me it’d take 10 to 15 minutes for my food to be ready. Meanwhile she’s on a personal call ignoring calling customers.” And the man just stared at me and he didn’t say anything to me or her…….worst customer service ever. I came in town to visit and heard good reviews about that establishment…..would not recommend! If you go there don’t bother calling in your order because their personal phone calls is more important than dealing with calling customers. Our people has got to do better. I usually don't leave "negative" reviews because I know how the stress of running a business can be, but at some point this place became really inconsistent with their customer service. The average order came up to $60-$80 plus tips frequently because I'd have multiple people ordering every time and im located no more than 4 minutes from their location. Over the course of a few months the quality of food has gone down the drain, there is ONE cook that actually cooks the food and it actually taste great! Think they call him "Country" awesome cook! Now I "attempt" to order food ONLY when he is there. Which leads me to the customer service which has been suffering, id call and be placed on hold for 10 minutes and no one would answer because they don't want to take the order or just simply negelecting to do their job, 10 minutes on hold to take an order? unacceptable! After awhile I just got tired of waiting and hung up, I guess my $60 order wasn't worth the time. I suggest they get better management because whoever is over this circus right now isn't holding their staff accountable for the ridiculous wait times and lackadaisical behavior, its literally costing this business money... I used to enjoy the food and service on a consistent basis, now I'm sorry to say its more hit or miss than ever. Hope they get it...
