I was very excited to try Keke’s Breakfast Cafe, as I had heard a lot of great things but it was only average for a Tallahassee breakfast place with undergraduate employees.
When we arrived there was one couple who arrived just before us, and we were both given a 15-20 minute wait. We didn’t mind the wait, as all of the tables were spaced out to accommodate social distancing. The group prior to us was seated, and two groups of people arrived after us, all with short wait times of only 15-20 minutes!
After 10-15 minutes the hostess smiled and waved to me, saying that “your table is ready”. While she was seating us she mentioned that they were only serving breakfast (even though it was 12:30 pm), something that would have been nice to know before waiting for the table while browsing the lunch menu.
After the hostess sat us, she quickly returned to ask what the name on the waitlist was, as we had apparently responded to the “wrong name”, complaining that this was someone else’s table. Mind you, she didn’t call a name or send the text that the table was ready, she simply waved and verbally said she was ready for us. It was not only unprofessional to return to guests that she accidentally seated to complain about her mistake it was also very uncomfortable for her to make it sound like it was our fault by responding to the wrong name that she never verified. If she hadn’t said anything no would have known the difference as multiple tables left around the same time, so we were very confused about the entire interaction, assuming that maybe she’s new.
Our server was very nice, he offered suggestions to ensure we ordered dishes that we would enjoy, and to avoid certain modifications that may disrupt the flavor or quality of the dish. He also checked in often to make sure everything was going well and was very accommodating with check splitting.
My friends and I each ordered egg dishes, as one of us had previously tried the amazing stuffed French toast and we were excited to try new dishes. My friends ordered egg sandwiches and I the two egg specials. Their sandwiches were tasty, although average breakfast food, similar to my egg special. “Toast” was warmed bread with melted butter and the home fries were warmed, seasoned sautéed potatoes with a couple of browned pieces (I asked about having them well done which the server recommended not to, so I tried them as recommended). It was decent brunch food, but definitely not on par with their specialty French toasts.
TLDR; ask the hostess if the entire menu is available before waiting for a table, and skip the eggs, get the stuffed...
Read moreGot to the table and the Asian woman hostess led us to a table very close to the door. She didn’t even let me sit down before she prompted me to tell her my drink order. I told her we needed to look at the menu. She never came back and Javareous noticed 30 min later. He took our order and was very polite, but he didn’t write anything down. Another server came by to ask us what we ordered 10 min later. He came back 10 min later to ask what we ordered 10 min after the other server left. We wanted wildberry sangria and we were told they ran out. So, we settled for peach bellinis. When we finally received our “peach bellinis”, we realized mid conversation that they were in fact mimosas. When they arrived, the oranges had black spots and were slimy and unfresh. Javarious came 10 min later to say he brought us the wrong drinks. He said that he will bring the peach bellinis and when he finally did, they were in to go cups. They still weren’t bellini’s as there was a ton of orange juice in them. Since when does a peach bellini have OJ? My girlfriend ordered an omelette with sausage, toast and grits. Her grits were ice cold like they had been sitting out for 30min. She told Javarious she didn’t get her sausage and she waited a long time. In the end, she never received them, and was told the kitchen is closed. She told the server her grits were cold and she never got new ones. I never got the toast that came with my meal, and the ketchup bottle on the table was empty after a few squirts. Multiple workers clocked out and walked past as their shift ended, and there was nobody to correct the mistakes. As we were leaving, we stepped outside to see a worker smoking a fat blunt right outside the front door while in uniform. Others workers were hanging out right outside as well. This place is a HOT MESS. I am highly disappointed as my girlfriend was banking on a great meal before she went to work. There was a family that came well after us and all four or them got their food before we could even order. To think that while we were in the parking lot to another place, I told her that we must go here as someone I met in town said it was great. SMH. My girlfriend was super upset with her food and the service. She is the most patient person ever and even she was unnerved. She tried not to show it in the restaurant, but I got an earful as we walked to the car. I have been to many restaurants, but never had an experience this bad. Super unprofessional staff and there seemed to be no manager...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting Keke's.
We were greeted right away, sat at a clean booth, and greeted by a nice girl, however she never told us her name, but we read our recipe later. Danisha, I believe, is how it is spelt. We ordered two Philly Cheesesteak Pressed sandwiches, she upsold me on adding bacon, which was a great recommendation! Before our food came out, she delivered condiments, napkins, and made sure our drinks were full. Great work! Really appreciated her attentiveness at that point. 10 minutes after placing the order it was delivered and tasted wonderful! We were very pleased to know that Keke's had got it right on a staple dish! Unfortunately our experience had shifted at this point. We were not checked in on after food delivery or asked if we would like anything in additionto our meal, an opportunity to bump our check total was missed. 11:58, after looking around for our server for 10 minutes, we decided to go to the front to pay our ticket. Our waitress was standing amongst 4 others, drinking Starbucks, and talking about murders, and stabbings going on in the area. These are seemingly little details but as a manager in a local restaurant mysel, I take great pride in providing bith positive and onstructice criticism on how we can make a community of small/locally owned business better! Our experience was nice and we do intend to return, but a few things were missed by this location.
Dirty section across from us, with low traffic and full staff. 30 minutes from us first being sat/seeing it, the host did a pass by sweep. Underneath was still covered with debrise.
Blonde woman with bun was openly eating in the kitchen. Cross contamination is a concern.
No table touch from manager. Our experience could be discussed had anyone had checked on the customer.
Had to chase our check. We are 20% tippers and today we were still, but this is an example of what can affect a tip.
Side conversations, especially of a topic that can put a bad taste in peoples mouths, should be left for a less public broadcasting.
Thank you for a great tasting meal. Please accept this review as constructive and...
