I was always a big fan of Far East Cuisine - and Lemongrass (the same folks, in a more upscale setting) continues to be TLH's best Viet cuisine.
Bò kho (Beef Stew) has been "my thing" for a while now and the Beef Stew here is sublime. Go Google Bò kho for yourself - check out some of the vids / recipes. Just know that the Beef Stew here is addictively good. I wish I could manage to order something other than the Bò kho when I come here - but I'm not there yet. (In fact, I haven't ordered the Pho yet - I'm pretty sure it's still every bit as good as it was at Far East Cuisine...).
I would love to see Larb on the menu - but if it's there, it's under an anglicized name (maybe the spicy beef salad? - but the pineapples don't line up - so I don't know...).
I also wish that tripe and tendon were Pho options - but unless they're under the "special" Pho, they're not. I understand most gringos aren't going to jump up and down for either - but they're delectable options.
Sunday features a buffet. Personally, I'm not big on "AYCE Pho" because I figure that a dinner-sized portion of Pho is "AYCE" for me anyway! - There are other items on the buffet though. The buffet WAS the solid option for several of the kids when we have come. So... if a modest buffet line is your thing, then yes - come on Sundays.
But - back to the Bò kho (Beef Stew)... It is SOOOO Good. Let me go on and on about it for a spell...
All five flavor profiles end up in your mouth. That's right - this is a quintuple flavor-bomb featuring Sweet, Salty, Sour, Bitter AND Umami.
Whenever the first Vietnamese place in Tallahassee opens up for breakfast (hint, hint) as well as lunch/dinner, sign me up for ordering Bò kho for breakfast. After all, "back in the old country", Bò kho is breakfast food anyway - although increasingly, Vietnamese have it throughout the day.
You can order it here with either rice, noodles OR baguette. Go with the baguette. Think about it...
The Bò kho is SOOOO Good.
OK - few more things - the summer rolls continue to be the best in town, and the Thai fish cakes AND the soft shell crab salad are winners too.
Oh - and, remember - the Bò...
Read moreThe food wasn’t great and they have problems with their location and service. The Restaurant is located in a mostly boarded up strip mall and is hidden from view even when in the parking lot, parked as close as possible. You must first find the small alley between Hibbet Sports and a Borders Books. Then walk straight back down the alley about a block and the restaurant will be on the right. However don’t try the 3 doors that face you because you must go around to the side and use the 1 door you can’t see when you walk up. It would have definitely got me but I saw the people infront of me try the 3 doors and then walk around to the side. The To-Go Order I picked up had no chopsticks, napkins, or utensils of any kind. The bag also only came with a little cup of Oyster Sauce and some Bean Sprouts which left me craving some Sriracha. Not having these items in the bag would normally be a minor inconvenience while at home but I am staying in a hotel while in town for business. So I had to go back out just to find utensils so I could eat. Then my food was cold when I finally was able to eat. The Pho itself did have some Cilantro, a little red onion, and a lime wedge. The way the ordering process sounded I thought there was going to be a good amount of meat because they insist you Choose 2 Different meats to complete the order online. However, I counted 3 slices of Brisket, and 4 slices of eye round. At some of my favorite places I will have difficulty finishing the Pho but despite not really loving this Pho I think I emptied the container in 2 or 3 minutes and was definitely still hungry. Really the only reason I didn’t give them 1 star is because I am trying to reserve those for the worst of the worst in virtually all categories and I can’t really say that about this spot despite...
Read moreEDIT : To Tiffany, the Owner. Unfortunately, I was in from out of state as my parents have just moved to the area. Before I can even consider asking them to try your restaurant again (as I'm trying to drive over 1000 miles to come back) are you going to address the fact that 1. My dad's food was clearly spilled and either replaced by our server or apologized for? 2. Due to a medical condition, I have an immediate reaction physically to bleach including vapors coming off of the product feet away, and though it may not have touched my food, it provided an incredibly unappetizing and uncomfortable dining environment. We were at your restaurant on 8/8/19 approximately 8ish? PM. You might want to review your cameras (assuming you had them in your back room) as we looked around for the source and saw no employees cleaning out on the main floor...leading me to believe that the bleach smell WAS coming from the back area. OSHA has laid out bleach levels to be safely used and for that odor to be so strong, there had to have been more than necessary amounts of bleach NEAR the food coming from your kitchens. Maybe this is something that needs to be touched on with your staff. I appreciate you reaching out, but it was absolutely bleach, and though you apologized you have mentioned 0 effort of what you would do to remedy this situation in the future.
Went here with my dad for dinner. Food was okay and came out on time, but halfway through our meal we smelled and OVERWHELMING amount of bleach that got stronger and stronger as we ate. We quickly got our bill and sent our food to the back to be wrapped. When our server returned, it was clear that half of my fathers food was missing. Very disappointed and...
