A hidden gem. We have been looking for a local bar/pub with food that doesn't only cater to college students. I think we've found the place!
We went early on a Friday night and the place wasn't busy. Within an hour of arriving, however, it started to fill up nicely. We sat inside, but they also have a covered patio and an outdoor patio, but of which will be nice if the temperature ever decides to go below 90 degrees!
Service was very friendly and very attentive. We started out with happy hour 2-for-1 gin and tonics. Unfortunately, they came in rocks glasses rather than highballs so the ratio was off.
We had an order of fried cheese curds to start. They were excellent. If they had been a little hotter in the middle then they would have been outstanding. The breading was perfectly crunchy and the tomato sauce on the side was delicious. We ordered done onion rings to accompany dinner, but they also came as an appetizer. These were also very good, but didn't come with any dipping sauce (and we weren't asked if we wanted any).
I had the fried grouper and it was great. It wasn't exactly a beer batter, but it was crispy on the outside and tender and flaky inside. It was also a good sized piece of grouper. The accompanying sauce, like a thousand island dressing, was a nice accompaniment. And I really liked the "sidewinder" fries. An unusual style of French fry.
We really enjoyed the restaurant, the service, the food and the vibe. Looking forward to...
Read moreI have heard great things about The Getaway Grille and Bar, so I decided to give it a try —— WOW, WOW, WOW. A phenomenal experience —- top notch food, great service, great staff, warm and appealing ambiance. It has counter seating, inside table seating, and outside seating in their shaded beer garden. Music on weekends, and every Tuesday night is “Tuesday Night Bikes and Trikes” with specials. Who goes here —- everyone, from the very young ( babies are welcome ) to the very old ( just like me, teetering into antiquity…. LoL ), those dining solo, those on a date, those dining with a group, those dressed casually, those all dressed up. In short, everyone feels comfortable, everyone feels welcomed.
Now, as to what I had —— ribeye steak, mashed potatoes with butter / garlic, steamed broccoli, and the house salad with ranch dressing. The servings are gigantic, no skimping —— actually enough for two people. I was so full I actually took enough home for another serving the next day.
This is a long review, but they deserve it. —— I wanted to make the same effort as they exemplify in their effort and pride in their restaurant. Indeed, if one were to look up the phrase “great restaurant” in the dictionary / encyclopedia —— it would probably just say, “go to The Getaway Grille and Bar.” YES, that is how good they are ! I have become a...
Read moreSecond time we've been there for lunch because grouper sandwich was very good. Thursday a little after noon. Only about 8 people including us 2 people. Service slow both on getting beers served and food. 20 minutes for food after waiting for drinks. Seems like first time we were there for lunch grouper sandwich was $16 but today $20. It's and excellent sandwich. Why do you have to ask for extra plate and wait when you're sharing? Ordered Cole slaw. They don't make it. It's not even as good as hot dog Cole slaw in a convenience store. Sent it back. Something about they use that premade Cole slaw because they don't sell enough to make it there. Well of course you don't sell much because it is awful. Waitress refused to take it off the bill. Owner over heard and took it off. A 16 oz draft $10 which seems a little pricey. So food, credit card surcharge, tax tip (which BTW they suggest 20, 25, 30 percent really 30 percent) was $50 bucks for lunch. Two people split a sandwich and fries and 2 beers, one 16 and one 12 oz . Surcharge for credit card? Didn't even get a heads up on that unless it's in small print on menu....
