Full disclosure - I penned this one four years ago and simply forgot to add it to Google's descriptors.
I'd been hearing about this place for some time now. It's a Jacksonville-spawned operation and it's now extending beyond Duval county.
...This place is fantastic. I can't write about every single item on the menu but, I'll sheepishly admit that I can write about FOUR of those items. I brought my "grown-up" camera kit because I figured I'd ask the manager (a very nice guy named Michael) if I could take some behind the scenes photos. As busy as they were, he graciously said OK!
The line-up: The squawking goat. (biscuit, fried chicken, goat cheese, pepper jelly) - the crispiness of the chicken serves a nice counterpoint to the soft innards of the biscuit and the lightly battered goat cheese dances nicely with the pepper jelly. This is a great marriage of ingredients and whoever figured this one out came up with an instant classic.
The five & dime. (biscuit, fried egg, chicken, bacon, cheddar, sausage gravy). I didn't expect this one to carry the punch that it did, but I noticed a subtle cayenne sheen that compelled me to have more than I initially set out to eat! The sausage gravy was just the right consistency, and the bacon was done perfectly. not limp. not brittle. just right.
The hashups. I'll go ahead and say it. This is the best hashbrown creation I've ever had. This is not the guide to how all other places should present and create hashbrowns. the potatoes are perfectly sized AND cooked. soft/moist interior, golden brown exteriors with the right consistency. I learned afterwards that there are two variants you can go with (The "Bob" and the "David"). This was perfect as-is.
The lone biscuit (I know it has a name to it, but I've forgotten it - it's a biscuit with cinnamon glazing on it (I think)). Perfect accompaniment with the double espresso I had.
And... - speaking of coffee, I learned from one of the people here that they roast their own coffee in Jacksonville - and roast it WITH maple syrup. I don't know how that works - but sure enough, there's a hint of maple on the back of the palate.
The ONE beef I have with these folks is that they're sourcing their maple syrup from Ohio. I learned this little bit of trivia from the well-done website. Everybody knows the best Maple syrup comes from Vermont trees! ;)
I'm looking forward to returning here - and anticipate that a long line will always be part of the experience. When Football season kicks off, I can't imagine how long lines will be on...
Read moreLet’s start by saying my FRIED GREEN TOMATOES were giant and delicious. You get four big slices of tomatoes. Mines were cooked to perfection but more importantly the batter was seasoned, crispy, and not super doughy. The ranch was definitely homemade and not that cheap water down sauce you typically get. I also got the potatoes O’Ryan without the ham. There were plenty of sautéed onions and peppers. The potatoes were brown and slightly crispy, with just a little cheddar cheese on top. I wanted some eggs to go along with my breakfast so I asked for 2 scrambled eggs and I got 2 folded eggs instead but oh well. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and super refreshing and sweet. Can’t go wrong getting that juice. We also ordered the COWBOY biscuit sandwich they ran out of country fried steak and we were offered chicken as a substitute. There is nothing little about the biscuit sandwich you definitely need two hands to eat it. We paired it with a side of grits and they definitely could have used more butter, no flavor to me rather bland. The employee who took our order was nice and patient, she answered every question I had and I really appreciated that. You seat yourself at this restaurant, they will call your order by the title of your favorite movie which you provide after placing your order. I think that’s pretty cool. The restaurant has a lot of seating and was clean. Thanks for the good breakfast Maple Street...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere new to try for breakfast. Instantly walking into this place the line was maybe 20 people deep. We thought it would take maybe 5-10min cause all you have to do is order after waiting in line. I am not even exaggerating. We waited 45 minutes just to order our food. The line moved so slow and the lady working the cash register didn’t seem like she knew what she was doing when we got up there. And I have read the reviews. This is not the first time someone has complained about her. After ordering, our drinks came out fairly quick. On the other hand, it took about another 45 minutes to receive our food, in which they forgot half of our order. It took another 15 minutes additionally for us to get the rest of our food. Both our appetites were gone by the time our food was out because we had already finished our drinks. Although that was the case, the food was still fairly good, but the service made me never want to visit this place again. We were not the only people who waited more than an hour to be served. There were plenty of customers waiting to pick up there food who had impatient attitudes due to the lack of service.
With all being said, this place would be one of the top breakfast restaurants in Tallahassee if their service was at least mediocre. I don’t ever write reviews but I had to...
