Gonzo's Sandwich Shop — Restaurant in Tampa

I went to Gonzo's on a work trip, at the outbreak of the Pandemic.

I am an amateur chef. I do not work in food, but I love to cook at home. One of my favorite movies is Chef, and when I learned I would be working in Tampa, the birthplace of the Cuban Sandwich, I knew I had to have my first bite of a Cuban Sandwich in Tampa Florida.

Gonzo's made that first bite, utterly divine. I will never forget how good this sandwich was. I could taste the limes and citrus in the pulled smoked pork, despite the pickles and mustard (which I usually consider overpowering in anything). It was tender, it was buttery, it was cut lengthwise, which made it easy to get good bites without food coming out the side, and it was still perfectly crunchy.

If I have a reason to travel back to Florida, for any reason, you can bet I am going to make an excuse to travel out of the way to go back to Gonzo's.

Thank you Gonzo's, for making what will always be a hallmark memory in my life exploring and seeking culinary...

The West Tampa is delicious!!!! Also ordered the pulled pork sandwich and yuca fries with garlic mayo dipping sauce. I've had my share of pressed sandwiches in Tampa and would absolutely choose Gonzo's again, just for the West Tampa. Something about how all the flavors go together is just perfect. It's a small storefront with about 10 tables inside and an outdoor area as well. 2 sandwiches and the yuca was $25. Practically everyone in there eating was some finance type guy on lunch with his buddies. The owner was wearing all Tampa Bay sports team gear and the spot is decorated with Tampa Bay sports memorabilia, mostly golf related....

Just walking in the atmosphere has that sense of homeyness and classic sandwich shop air to it. I was greeted by the owner as soon as I came in, seeing as ive never been here before he was more than happy to help guide me through the menu and give some suggestions as to what is popular/what he likes himself. Ended up getting the Philly Cheesesteak, First off, just off seeing the bread I knew the toast of the bread was amazing. Off my first bite was such an incredible burst and blend of flavor, absolutely an incredible suggestion for anyone wanting to get a great and sandwich and an even better service experience.
