Update...3rd visit: The Mac & Cheese was good! And the Pineapple Sweet Tea was excellent! But I guess this place is not consistent. I ordered the Big Pig...2 meats & 2 sides...picked the ribs, chicken, mac & cheese, and green beans, ...and a Pineapple Sweet Tea. The ribs were some of the chewiest ribs I've ever eaten. I had to chew them for a very long time to choke them down. I just said chicken when I ordered(they have "chicken" on the menu, and they have "chicken...a breast and wing" for a small upcharge) because I prefer dark meat. The order taker did not ask if I wanted white or dark. I got part of a breast that was chopped into 3 or 4 pieces. The flavor was good, but it was dry. Not dry like white meat is drier than dark meat...no...this was dry for white meat. The green beans were bland. And they had ZERO desserts at 7:15pm on a Sat night. I was so disappointed with most of my meal. I only dropped 1 star because I don't like to be too harsh with reviews, but I do tell it like it is. If there's a next time(and the only reason for that is because of their desserts...if they have any) I'll stick with the chopped pork and hope for the best. If they screw that up I'll only return for the desserts and the Pineapple Sweet Tea. Oh, and they now add 3.75 percent to your bill if you use your credit/debit card. For 16 bucks and change, I felt ripped off considering the quality, or lack of quality, of the food.
Update...2nd visit: picked up food for 4 of us for lunch when I was at a refresher class for work at a hotel on Westshore Blvd. My food was great and everybody else said they really enjoyed theirs.
First review: First off....the lady who took my order was so friendly and welcoming... I knew there was gonna be love in the food. And I was right!
I read the reviews first, so I thought it would be good. But oh my! It was soooo soooo good! I ordered the Big Pig dinner with 2 meats...I chose the Chopped Pork and the Ribs. For my sides I chose Mac & Cheese and BBQ Baked Beans.
My first bite of the chopped pork was so full of flavor...good and smokey with some burnt edges. Delicious! They use a mustard based sauce...I would call it Carolina Gold. I'm not a huge fan of mustard sauce, but this was delicious...not too mustardy. Ribs were very good too. They put sauce on them, but they had a good dry rub on them. I think I could have eaten them without sauce, which I only do at one other bbq place...and that's Kojak's.
The Mac & Cheese was delicious too! And I'm picky about Mac & Cheese...this was good and cheesy. The BBQ Baked Beans were very good too....some of the best I've had.
I also ordered a piece of the Lemon Pound Cake because it looked so good. And that was one of the most surprising things about the meal...it was out of this world heavenly good! So moist...I've never had pound cake like that before....so obviously homemade. Really incredible. And that nice lady blessed me with an extra piece. And they are giant pieces! I've got plenty to share. I think another reviewer called it Key Lime Cake...it does almost taste like Key Lime...unless that's a whole different cake...idk.
Then she asked if it was my first time coming. It was. She said we give a free Pineapple Sweet Tea to first time customers. I said I wasn't a big fan of tea, so she said let me give you a taste first. What can I say? Other reviewers raved about it. And so will I! So good! It is VERY sweet, but that's fine with me...I like it that way. She gave me a full cup after I drank the taste she gave me. I NEVER drink tea, but I will be ordering it next visit.
Thank you all for your hard work providing good food for your customers! I know the restaurant business is a hard business....so thank you for...
Read moreUpdate* originally gave this place 5 stars but changed it after my experience I had in December of 2017. I usually stop by here every weekend, but haven't been by for the past 2 months due to the quality of service I received. First, the wait is terrible. Like others have stated, you can never get someone to answer the phone and when you get there, you're waiting anywhere for 30-45 mins for your food. I literally waste my entire hour lunch coming here. What really did it for me was one weekend in December '17, I was served half cooked chicken , which was obviously rushed due to their overwhelming demand. The chicken was white meat which has to be cooked thoroughly, and was red throughout. I ended up throwing the entire meal out. I gave them another chance and went back the very next day for an order, and was served the soggiest, mushiest, most disgusting mac n cheese that I've ever tasted from them in all the months that I've been going there. It was obvious that someone else made the Mac that day, but they didn't bother to charge less or not serve it at all which I thought was unprofessional. I'm all for giving business to family owned businesses, but don't try to cheat your customers. That Mac n cheese was disgusting and should not have been served. That was my last weekend there and I will not be returning. The customer service is less than avg, but you deal with it because the food is great. They really need to step the service up or they will start...
Read moreThis place could have gotten 5 stars if it wasn't for the terrible service, wait time and overpriced for the quantity you get. I had an order of 2 dinners with 2 sides (pulled pork sandwich, half rack ribs, large mac and cheese and large baked beans-- $35 for everything) and went on a Friday (today) around 1pm. Had the worst wait time I had ever experienced at any restaurant... 25 minutes to order and another 30 minutes to get the food! They open at 11am and they had already run out of callared greens... I assumed they would be making more so I asked how long until the next batch and was told " there is no more". I asked for baked beans and they gave me potato salad, which I had to chase someone down to correct the order. I can tell there is zero management and organization because the staff is wandering around aimlessly rather than helping other stations and multitasking. The portion of the mac and chesse... it was served in a medium stirofoam cup and it wasn't even filled all the way!! The baked beans were served the same. These portions at 5 dollars each is absolutely a rip off. If the service was better and the wait time was not so terrible, they would be a booming business. 4 People walked out before even ordering because they had been waiting so long! Others commented about never coming back after the experience. Their food is one of the best bbq in Tampa but I would rather spend my money elsewhere than...
