Arrived on a Weds evening after a long day of travel for a reunion with my 65+ parents. To preface my review: we're far from royalty, have each worked in the service industry/customer service, and are generally forgiving people.
That being said, we found ourselves moved to SIX DIFFERENT ROOMS during our FOUR NIGHT stay because of all the issues with this place. If I wasn't so annoyed by the impact this had on my parents and our trip, it would almost be funny. Read below for more details: Rm 1- (Weds): The room was set up for two people, despite being reserved for three. The cleanliness was iffy. Whatever- we can handle that. After unpacking, noticed the shower door was split (could feel separation). We were moved immediately for safety reasons.
Rm 2- (Weds-Fri): Unpacked again. Saw my first cockroach after my parents went to sleep (I killed it & opted not to mention to them). Found someone's hairbrush on the side of my bed in plain sight. Had the creeps & couldn't sleep. By Friday afternoon, the bathroom light wouldn't turn off and the outlet was buzzing. My parents let it slide; they didn't want to move again. I was on my second night of bad sleep and decided to book my own room to relax and catch up on rest for everyone's sake. While checking in, I urged them to make it right for my parents and instead was offered "Marriott points" which in general but especially after this experience hold no value to us.
Rm 3- (Fri): A large spider was trying to get under the baseboard when I walked into my new room (rude welcome alert). The price of room service was outrageous. Advertised streaming services didn't work. "Free" Wi-fi appeared to be $12.95/night. This all made me wish I hadn't impulsively dropped ~$200. I tried to call the front desk to sort out the TV but the phone didn't work. I headed to the front desk again and expressed my continued frustration; was offered a coupon for a free coffee...
Rm 4- (Sat AM): Parents reported seeing cockroaches Friday evening (3rd night with bugs). For the record I know bugs are part of life but having this many 8+ stories up was creepy). Between that and the light issue, they requested a new room. The front desk said they would let the manager know.
Rm 5- (Sat AM): We've now missed out on activities because of time spent moving. Incidentally we had also just returned from a meeting held in a hotel conference space where pre-ordered breakfast for attendees never came. One board member was late because her wake up call didn't come in. Another because the outlet stopped working during the night and her phone died. I'm about done. We arrive in our new room and notice the shower door was split AGAIN. If I ran the hotel I probably would have peeked at the room ahead of time at this stage for damage control (or at least to stop having to deal with us) but what do I know?
Rm 6- (Sat afternoon): Haul our things to a new room while our window for a planned outing continues to shrink. Upon arrival we see a weird, sticky pile of hair from visitors past on the bathroom floor and opted to just clean it up. The front desk called as promised to check in. Just as my mom answered "everything looks great!" I noticed the freaking shower door was cracked. At this point we were cutting into (no pun intended) our time to get ready for a military gala and opted to just stay in the room.
We visited Tampa to attend a reunion for the U.S. Military's most highly-decorated veterans. The staff was aware my dad was a member of this organization (that paid the hotel to host the event). Every customer deserves a decent experience, but I know I would have done a lot more to make up for his.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how pleasant the front desk staff was (so much of this was beyond their control). Transportation services were great and drivers (Raul & others) went above and beyond and were extremely respectful. In the end, the hotel did comp a night for my parents, but that didn't come easily and didn't seem like enough.
Thank you for listening to...
Read moreWhile we have had several issues with this particular hotel, the first poor experience was unclear as to if it was the hotel itself or Marriott. We had two separate reservations, one for each night we were staying. Both reservations were incorrect. One reservation, they showed a different name even though we verified the name was added the day prior. The second reservation was for the wrong day even though we provided the email confirmation of the correct dates. We did get all of this fixed and checked into the hotel.
The hotel is a bit dated and older. It could benefit from a bit of modernization. We can overlook this though.
The room we got was one the east-facing side (facing the airport). We're on the 10th floor yet we can hear so much traffic and street noise. The view is cool, we can see some water and watch the planes landing.
The bathroom has nowhere to hang anything. We've hung towels in the closet on hangers so they can dry. There are no hooks in the shower for washcloths either.
There is a very strange smell in the room. It smells like dirty laundry. While it isn't strong, it is noticable.
The TV randomly turns off. It pops up with a warning that it will turn off in 30 seconds but you can't stop it. It says to hit ok to cancel it but it doesn't actually let you do that so you wait for the inevitable doom and then turn it back on and start over.
One elevator, out of three, was not working or was not on or just did not like us. This wouldn't be an issue normally but this weekend there was some football thing going on so the hotel was full of people. At one point, there was a linebof people waiting for the elevators that went all down a long hallway.
There are a lot of lights on the room, which is great. The light behind the beds flickered like the lights on the basement of an office in 1975.
When we checked in, we asked about a taxi service or shuttle to the cruise terminal. The woman helping told us to come back the day before the cruise and the girls at the desk at that time would take care of it for us. She told us they have a regular taxi guy they use because Uber tends to cancel a lot of rides. She said come down and the girls will call and schedule him for you. The next day, we went downstairs and told them we needed the service. They gave us a card, said to call him, and that we would better off using Uber. We explained what the woman said the night before and she said that wasn't the case. We just ordered an Uber.
There is a small coffee shop downstairs in the lobby and we were excited to try it. The prices were decent and they had some good options. The issue was it was never open. There were no hours posted by it. We saw someone there once. We went to do something for a very short time then came back to go and they were closed again.
The concierge desk is not open on the weekends at this location which is quite the bummer as well.
The pool area is very nice! The shower is...
Read moreI don't usually participate in reviews. But I felt it important to share the little details that made our stay exceptional. The front desk staff were all so very nice, friendly and accommodating. It's not uncommon to find one or two but each one that I dealt with (and there were 4) went over the top for our stay.....accommodating our late departure, they gave us a late check out. We each received a free bottle of nice cold bottled water to enjoy by the pool. On the day we left, our flight was not scheduled until late in the evening. We planned on using the facilities until leaving for the airport. We were happy to find showering facilities in the women's locker room so we could shower after being by the pool in the sun all day. But when there was no hair dryer, I asked my husband to ask someone at the front desk if there happened to be one we could borrow. I really didn't expect there would be. When he arrived to give us the blow dryer for our hair, my daughter and I were beyond thrilled! This is important if you are a girl :) Lastly, after leaving the hotel to go have dinner before heading to the airport, my daughter realized she may have left her necklace on the end table in our hotel room. I decided to call to see if the maid her turned one in. The girl who answered (I didn't think to get a name at the time) was also super accommodating. Not only did she check with housekeeping but took my phone number to call back. She was going to go look in the room herself. We decided to just stop back at the hotel before going to the airport to have my daughter look herself. They happily took her up to the room to have her take a look as well. When nothing turned up, we went on our way. The next day, I received a phone call to let us know they checked the lost and found the next morning, and though it didn't show up, I was surprised they actually followed through since you rarely see that anymore. Luckily, my daughter did find her necklace at the bottom of her luggage and it was a happy ending. It was details like these that made our stay so exceptional. Each occurrence showed how really valued each of their guests are. We were treated so very well for whatever we needed. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Tampa area and plan...
