As cliché as it may sound, my partner and I are very generous tippers. We enjoy supporting good service and good people—especially when we’re out to support our friends, like we were this night at Sagebrush in Taos. But after the experience we had with bartender Katie Rose, there was no way I could justify leaving more than a minimal tip that accurately reflected the rude and dismissive service we received. She was happy to serve us attitude, and I was more than happy to tip accordingly. I’m sure her regulars will take care of her—what good are two more customers when you already have your favorites?

We arrived in good spirits, ordered our first drinks, and sat at the bar. After finishing our drinks, we were ignored repeatedly—Katie walked past us several times without acknowledging us. After a long wait, we politely got her attention with a simple, “Miss, can we get another drink?” to which she responded with an aggressive attitude as if we were bothering her just for asking.

When we finally got our second round, my margarita was half full and extremely watered down. I politely asked why it wasn’t poured the same way as the first. She rolled her eyes, claimed she “added more ice,” dumped it into a smaller cup, made a mess in the process, and said, “This is what we normally serve. Trust me, I make these a hundred times a day.” Her entire demeanor was condescending and dismissive.

To make things worse, Katie then went and spoke to security, and shortly afterward, we were blatantly cut off after just two drinks—one of which was barely a full serving. Security looked us up and down with attitude, and without any explanation, Katie printed our check before we even finished eating. She started scooting us over to make room for her regulars. The message was loud and clear: we weren’t welcome.

We were calm and respectful the entire time. We didn’t argue, didn’t raise our voices, and didn’t match her energy. We simply came to support our friends in the band and enjoy our night. But her attitude toward us, compared to how she treated her regulars, was night and day.

As someone who owns businesses and is studying law, I take service and presentation seriously. Serving a guest a glass half full of mostly ice is not just lazy—it’s misleading. And treating first-time guests like they’re a burden is a guaranteed way to lose potential loyal customers. But again, I’m sure Katie Rose doesn’t care. We’re not regulars, and to her, we probably never mattered to begin with.

The food was okay, shoutout to the kitchen staff. It’s just a shame that kind of service taints the whole experience. If you’re having a bad day, that’s okay. We all do. But take the night off instead of taking it out...

The experience at this beautiful historic restaurant was not what I expected. The waiting staff should be spoken to about not bringing their personal beliefs into a professional environment. This restaurant is in New Mexico after all - Pueblo territory, expanded by the Spanish long ago. The audacity of the female waitress to come complain to me about another table of customers saying "this is America and people should speak English". Being that I'm mestizo I found that extremely offensive. I offered the waitress to translate for her and the Spanish speaking table- she declined. Later a possibly local Hispanic family showed up to a packed restaurant, and had nowhere to sit and wait. That same waitress tells them they can't be standing around and should wait outside (in a rude tone, on a November night when it's cold). I felt bad for that family, I felt for the Spanish speaking family too. It's only imaginable to believe that this specific waitress prefers to serve certain people. Couldn't really enjoy my meal after all that. Management should really provide a waiting area. Don't expect the waitress to change her views, but should at least be professional to ALL people at her place...

This was by far the worst restaurant that I have ever eaten at! We stopped in because of the great reviews on Google... well dont be led astray... it was AWFUL! I ordered the "gourmet" burger, it was so dry it was crumbly and falling apart, the burger didn't have anything on it that was listed in the menu, fresh avacodo, gouda cheese etc. My friend ordered a $20+ prime rib cooked medium, it came well done and dry, with absolutely NO flavor or seasonings. She had them take back her plate it was so bad, glass of wine was served in a dirty glass. The server seemed appolgitec until he got sat a table of 8 then we were suddenly trash, he took all of our plates when we complained then disappeared, he took the party of 8 order and put it in to the computer before ever coming back to bring our check. We had to flag down a very helpful bus boy to get our check and finish out our payment, he asked another lady waitress for help and she said "that's not my table". I also saw another server sneeze in his hand, continue putting in an order then serve a table without washing his hands. We were dooped into this one, but hopefully this review can spare you the...

The food was great but the service was terrible. Our group of six was immediately greeted by the waitress with, "Hi, are we drinking anything but water today?" A little taken back, but we ordered our drinks. I had the prickly pear margarita and it was outstanding! One of the members of our group ordered a beer and the wrong one was delivered. No problem, she offered to bring the correct one out, no charge. When the waitress arrived with the correct beer, she started complaining about her bartender and placing blame. We ordered our food, I had three chicken tacos. Again, amazing food! The waitress never bothered to check on us. We were all out of drinks, and I kept trying to flag her down, to no avail. Eventually, I got up and walked over to ask for refills for the table. The refills came and we sat and waited for her to either check up on us or offer the bill, but again we were ignored. Another at our table eventually flagged her down and asked for the bill. We would have stayed for a few more drinks, but promptly paid the bill and left. Tl;dr amazing food, poor service.

We had a fantastic experience at Sagebrush Grill and Cantina in Taos, NM! The informal, relaxed atmosphere made it the perfect spot for a family outing. We started with the buffalo wings, which were deliciously spicy and perfectly cooked. The burger was juicy and flavorful, and it hit the spot just right. Our 7-year-old birthday boy, Anthony, absolutely loved his slider – it was the perfect size for him and made his day special. The friendly staff and cozy ambiance added to the wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend Sagebrush Grill and Cantina for a great meal in Taos!

First time coming here... atmosphere was top notch with ambiance. Loved the live music! It is a holiday weekend so I always give grace to busy servers. However people that came in after us were served first. I had to go to the bar and get my own drink. My server was reluctant to give me her name. She said call her Banana Pepper Star. Ugh Hopefully it was a bad day for her. You never know what is going on with someone in their personal life. Food was on point! So delicious
