We were staying in Tehachapi for the night and needed somewhere quick and convenient to eat. TK was just down the road from our hotel, so we walked down there for dinner. From the outside the restaurant was bustling, so we had high hopes. Oh dear. Walking in we were immersed in the smell of cooking oil, but the menu looked promising so we sat down. We chose our food and ordered at the counter. I chose a medium Aloha BBQ pizza, a choice I'd later pay the price for. After a very long wait our pasta arrived. After an even longer wait our pizzas arrived. We even had to go up to the counter to enquire about where our food was. Our discomfort was not helped by the uncomfortable benches and metal tables. When it did arrive though I felt a huge sense of relief - being starving from the long trip, I would've eaten anything. But this faded upon closer inspection of the pizza. I'm very experienced in eating unhealthy food, but this pizza was a new low for me. It was smothered in bacon, so much so that if you tried to pick up a slice the toppings would simply flop off. I also felt it was excessively burnt in places. I haven't even mentioned the salt content yet. I woke up in the middle of the night with dehydration. Moving onto death valley the next day, this was the last thing I needed. My pizza was just very unhealthy and not very nice. Perhaps other dishes are nicer, but I doubt they're much healthier. All I can say is that the quantity of food was great for $20. This unfortunately doesn't make this place any healthier. With only a Burger King next door, we felt we had no option but to dine at TK. I'm more than happy to eat an unhealthy meal if it's tasty. But this was not the case. I was disappointed, but I know that this place has the potential to make some great food, as it is clearly a popular place in the local community.
I would just add, however, that I cannot tolerate the single-use plastic cups they provided us with. In such a stunning landscape, we must appreciate our surroundings, and single-use plastic cups are completely...
Read moreWent there for a weekday lunch, about 1pm. Wow, excellent food. I ordered a small Spicy Salami pizza. Probably one of the best pizza's around. I cant think of a better tasting pizza on the west coast. Bold flavors and actually a bit spicy. Even the crust was very tasty. I was certainly pleasantly surprised.
The service is okay. Not rude but also not welcoming. The workers looked happy when they were talking to each other so it must be a fun place to work at but the workers were just mildly indifferent when dealing with customers.
You need to wait in line and place your order at the counter. I am getting so annoyed when they ask you for a tip even before they provide any service. The worker brings the pizza to my table with a simple "here you go" and I never hear from them again. Was that good or bad service? Neither. Its just a person dropping off a pizza. I love small business' and especially love it then they offer good service. Maybe ask "can I get you anything else" or "would you like some red peppers" or "thank you for coming by" or maybe just a smile. No, I am not complaining or bashing. I just wish they served their fantastic pizza with fantastic service in order to have an amazing restaurant.
This place would be great for people with trailers as there is plenty of on-street parking and they have a huge parking...
Read moreCame to this place four years ago and loved it. It was pretty quiet and the service and staff was great. Returned four years later and 90 percent of the tables had reserved signs on them with times. Server went out and found three tables open in the corner outside and that was it. The rest of them were reserved for a party of 50 for 6 o’clock. We sat outside and it was a cold evening for summer and the party of 50 wasn’t there by 6 or even 6:30. We went inside to be warm and sat along the window which isn’t comfortable with 3 toddlers. A table opened up that had a reserved sign for 5:00 and those people left so we moved over to sit there and finish the remainder of our food and one of the employees came over to tell us that spot was reserved again for another group; we literally had 10 minutes to finish. Not sure if we came on an evening where it was Tehachapi Homecoming or High School graduation; because it was busy and they reserved nearly their whole place to most who showed up 35 minutes late. Food is good but not worth that headache. They should consider looking into their reservation policy, it is a pizza joint after all....
