A good friend of mine spotted this place while at the sandwich spot next door and told me we had to try it. I'm a huge wings, chicken and waffles guy, so we went Monday, Oct 13. We went around 1pm and it was fairly busy. There was a group of 8 or 10 people, maybe 6 or 8 people at the bar (YES, an actual full service bar!), and a few folks scattered at the tables.
We were asked to seat ourselves and our friendly server was over to welcome us and give us menus and waters immediately. The menu is FANTASTIC. They have a wonderful spread of soul food, the stuff that makes you feel satisfied, the delicious type of meals your mom or grandma would make and remind you of home. Chicken, waffles, grits, shrimp, sandwiches, and some ridiculous deep fried biscuits - but the menu is huge, almost too much!
I ordered the 3 piece wing and waffle with a side of brown gravy. My friend ordered 2 biscuits and gravy. Before the meals came, a nice gentleman came by and offered us 4 fried biscuits to try - free of charge. Smart move! These biscuits really wowed us and set the tone for the rest of the meal. They were so ridiculously warm, soft, sweet, flaky, a little crunch to the outside texture. A++ 9/10 biscuits!
Our meals came shortly after the biscuits. Both meals were beautifully simple dishes, exactly what you'd hope for from authentic homestyle cooking independent restaurant - They did not disappoint! The chicken was flavorfully battered and fried to perfection, and the waffle was thick, firm, sweet and delicious. My friend's B&G was excellent, too. The biscuits were large, perfectly flaky and moist, and the turkey gravy was delicious and generously draped over the whole plate - my type of B&G! The portions are large - but feel right in line with the prices. Not cheap, but well worth the price.
Note that when ordering wings, they seem pricy per wing, but you get the whole wing - drumstick and flapper! - making the wings a great deal. Basically the 12 pack order of wings is 24 wings elsewhere.
Today, Tuesday Oct 14, I was out and about and decided I needed more of those biscuits and wanted to share with the office. So I called in an order of 20 biscuits and 12 wings (for me!) to go. They were ready in 20-25 minutes. I shot the __ with the staff for a few minutes while they finished wrapping up my items and I was on my way. My staff absolutely loved the sweet fried biscuits, covered in a light dusting of powdered sugar, and we of course drizzled them with honey. Absolutely wonderful.
Good and bad that they are so close to my office! There are so many items on the menu that I have yet to try - I will be back many more times!
This is the longest review I've ever written. Hopefully it helps some of you make the wonderful decision to give George's a shot. You won't be disappointed!

Read moreHorrible Horrible service. Would not recommend nn We recently went. We where a part of 6 and when we walked in we could see they where busy We where not greeted by anyone. Sorts are front door for a good 10 mins before we had to walk over and ask what do we do find a table ourselves or wait. The girl with a very short response said just sit anywhere you can find. We then looked around and found a table and had to ask and wait for it to be cleaned. Once seated we waited about another 30 mins and finally asked someone walking by if she was our waitress she said no but I wil go ahead and get your drinks started. It took another 15 mins for drinks. We should have left when we first entered because as we where waiting I could over hear tables complaining about missing food and long wait times. We finally got drinks and then asked her who would take our order she reluctantly said “ I guess I’ll go ahead”. We placed our orders and waited 2 additional hours. We checked in with the waitress several al times and was told that their was angry customers in front of us and she didn’t have an eta. We asked for a manger who came over and we spoke with him he said he would go find out what was going on and he never came back. Finally after almost 2.5 hours we where told the kitchen lost our ticket. Don’t know if that’s the truth or not but NO ONE cared. She didn’t care the managers or owners didn’t care. There was also a table that got food before us. We left with no food and horrible service. We went to support a black owned business but they don’t seem to care about their customer at all. I warn anyone thinking about to skip this one. There are other restaurants that sell similar food. They also ran out of almost everything on the...
Read moreWe made it there on a Friday around 11am (took near and hour to get there). There were a few people at the bar and a table of 4 being taken care of prior to us coming in. The waitress asked if we were ready to order. We weren't ready but did order a drink (a long island). She brought the drink and left but never came back. We sat for a while before a this guy finally noticed we hadn't placed orders. He took our order very professionally and time our take home orders perfectly. The margarita flights you get your choice of three and they put sugar around the rim not salt. The Shrimp and grits were good. I just wish the shrimp were bigger (excuse the pic I took a bite, the presentation was better). I took home the jumbo fried shrimp. We also had the catfish and pizza puff. Then we took home ribs. The baby had George's favorite came with potatoes, meat, toast and scrambled eggs. She also had the grape koolaid. I loved the back home vibe. The drink menu had drinks named for everything from back home even a Blue island....but I did note there was no Harveyworld on the menu....personal issue lol. Otherwise, its a great spot with good food and music....
