JIAO Club in Rosemead, a new Chinese restaurant specializing in Beijing-style cuisine, opened its doors today, and as someone who lived and worked in Beijing for years, I was excited to check it out.
The menu features classics I love, like Napa cabbage in sweet vinegar, twice-cooked pork belly, fried bean noodles, and Kung Pao chicken. Unfortunately, no Peking Duck was available on opening day due to their roasting furnace not being ready, which was a letdown. We ordered a variety of dishes to test their authenticity, and most delivered. The Kung Pao chicken, with its subtle sweet vinegar kick, was a highlight, and the steamed cabbage with garlic and vermicelli was spot-on, full of flavor. However, the fried bean noodles missed the mark—the fried bean sauce lacked that distinct Beijing taste I was craving.
Service was a strong point; the servers were friendly, attentive, and quick despite the opening-day buzz. The decor feels Beijing style yet cozy, fitting for a casual Beijing-style meal. They’re also handing out scratch cards for a free dish on your next visit, which is a nice touch.
Prices seem fair for the portion sizes. While the fried bean noodles disappointed, the other dishes showed promise, and I’m eager to return once their Peking Duck is ready to see if they can fully capture Beijing’s...
Read moreThis is probably the best Chinese restaurant offering banquet-quality dishes with truly authentic flavors—at an incredibly fair price—so much so that you could eat here every day without feeling guilty! We ordered a few homestyle dishes that both the elderly and kids love, and the flavors instantly brought back childhood memories. Truly authentic!
The tomato and scrambled eggs, stir-fried garlic shoots with bean sprouts, and shredded pork in Beijing sauce were all hits—perfect for families with kids. The garlic-steamed shrimp was made with super fresh ingredients; the owner said they buy shrimp from Costco daily for this dish, not using frozen ones.
The chopped chili fish head was generous in portion and delicious. It came with a layer of tofu underneath that they make in-house, which explains the amazing texture—so different from store-bought. The cilantro beef tripe was surprisingly tasty with a refreshing tang.
As for the spicy chicken, each piece was a whole mid-joint wing—not those tiny bits that you have to pick through on a huge plate. Fragrant, tender, and not overly spicy. The kids were grabbing it so fast that we didn’t even get a chance to take a picture :) this is definitely a must try in San...
Read moreIt’s a different story about Me Bo Club. No wonder the business has been booming since their grand opening 3 months ago. We ordered across the menu, trying to catch all the cuisines with different styles — Sczchuan, Shanghainese, Shangdong, Beijing & Northeast (Dong-Bei). I have to say, every dish was on point—especially the Eel in Scallion Oil Sauce. Totally worth it!
The Hunan stinky tofu is also the bomb. Solid taste with flavorful sauce on top. The dessert - both the sesame balls and sweet potato taro balls are recommended.
Overall, each dish costs about $10-15 with a generous portion. With the special offer zone, it’s only $9.99 and free, unlimited rice! Given the good service, variety of choices, and authentic food tastes, Mebo Jiao Club really offers a local gem to the community!
I don’t know about you, but I’m sure I’m going back to explore their nearly 100 items on the menu. It gives you the sense of nostalgia about home cooking, yet you will feel so satisfied after every bite! This lives to their...
