Do you like sushi? Well please don't go to this place because it would make you not like it. Osaka sushi is located in Tenafly New Jersey, a nice neighborhood with a nice clean town. When I first saw Osaka sushi, my friends and I said we would be eating there everyday since we all love sushi and never thought that it would be right in our town. The first day I went into the store right after school I realized this place is disgusting. Their service is bad and the owner who usually serves people is a creep. He is very weird and whenever you order something, especially all you can eat, they won't give you your order or won't give you the right thing. One time my friend had to pay and they put in extra money and he said how there is so much money. Then they just took his card and paid when he said that. Most of the workers are underage and all experienced. The quality of things in this restaurant aren't the best. Their plates, cups and utensils are very dirty. When I ate there you could see in the cup how dirty it was with lip marks. Their Utensils are very gross with food on them without me even eating from them yet. The cheap quality of the pillow casing to sit on is uncomfortable. The tables are very sticky because they don't clean it well enough. Their kitchen looks disgusting since I was once in the back. It has chunks of food on the floor and the chefs don't use gloves. Their food varies from good and bad. The fish there are not fresh. Sometimes the fish might taste expired. I would not recommend trusting their fish or meat and just get an avocado roll. Their chicken tenders are very fake, you could tell they buy it made and put it in the microwave. I would not recommend working there. Although he hires people with no experience and literally hires everyone. The owner hires people under age which is illegal. He also hires people illegally without paperwork, If anyone were to report this, the restaurant would be shut down.. I know all this Information because my brother worked there. The owner would take all his tips. He also would tell someone that they won't have time today and then get mad at them that they didn't show up like they were supposed to. The food, service, quality, and workers all prove why it's a bad place to eat. Especially that it is located in such a nice town like Tenafly. The owner shouldnt be owning...
Read moreI recently moved to Tenafly from Fort Lee and was looking for a new sushi spot around area. I found Osaka Sushi and decided to bring my family to give it a try. We went on a Saturday evening, around 530pm when there was little activity and ordered the AYCE menu. I am afraid to say Osaka Sushi did not meet my expectations for many reasons: (1) even though we came in at a time with low traffic and ordered both kitchen and sushi options, we got served after the tables that came later than ours. By the time the tables were all filled at 6pm, we were still waiting for our order to come (2) the quality of the sushi is poor; we ordered a few specialty rolls that took a long time to arrive. One that had shrimp tempura inside came with the shrimp cold, and when chewed was soggy and stale, as if they forgot to fry it and just had it microwaved. In addition, we ordered nigiri a second time during the sitting and they stuffed it with rice in an attempt to compensate for orders that were never received at the table (3) there seemed to be a mix with our order as we received items we didn’t order, and simple items that we ordered that should be easy to serve and are staple such as Kani salad and Edemame never made their way to our table.
Towards the end we asked the server to cancel the rest of our orders because they were taking too long, and the food was not enjoyable.
The only good things about this place was the ambiance and decoration. The servers and waiters are kind and try their best at providing good service, but this does not make up by the poor food quality and timeliness.
I understand this restaurant is new and may still be figuring out how to serve their clients and meet demand during peak hours, but unfortunately I cannot recommend this place if you are a sushi enthusiast. We left dissatisfied and with a feeling that we did not get any of our...
Read moreSeen this restaurant whenever I’m in the neighborhood so decided to give it a try. Walking closer to the door I quickly realized maybe I made a mistake. Everything is about presentation these days. You have a beautiful establishment you anticipate top notch quality and service. Have low quality presentation, food and service will also follow the same way.
This restaurant and concept (which is very confusing by the way) doesn’t fit in this town at all. Too low budget and for the quality of food I got tonight, honestly was better off going to Kura in Fort Lee.
Crispy rice was most likely double fried or fried way too hot. It was inedible. Sashimi (no rice) unevenly cut. Gyoza and Shumai, literally 2 pieces of each. What a joke. Come on.
If you’re going to present yourself as AYCE then do JUST that. Why is half your menu on an AYCE 2 page sheet but skimp on portions and quality (based off MANY reviews- quality changes from AYCE vs a La carte). This location won’t survive very long if they operate this way.
Either make your sushi AYCE for a reasonable fixed price and rest of your menu a La carte or just go 100% a La carte and serve people what they deserve…quality sushi. Either way you won’t win or go far with your business layout. You look cheap from street level to the inside, to what you actually serve.
Sushi business is competitive. Compete by changing your presentation and improving quality. Watch how the people will fill your restaurants after that. It was pretty empty tonight and I walked in typical “peak” dinner hour.
Prob wont be back here for a bit until there are some serious changes. I don’t feel my dinner was worth the price point- quality way too cheap.
Also where’s the service? Waiters have no personality. Never saw them other than when we ordered and asked...
