Yasou Santorini — Restaurant in Tenafly

I didn't remember this place being so bad before covid. Perhaps the owners have changed. The "gyro" meat (not really gyro) tasted sour. The pastitsio had mashed potatoes instead of bechamel, and was virtually tasteless. The melitzanosalata was pureed and while not awful was not good either. The falafel and dolma were actually good. I'd go back for those only, and avoid everything else.

Perhaps my review was too harsh; I tend to be harsh when I've spent money on a meal that wasn't enjoyable. To respond to the owner: I think of "real" gyro meat as that spiced meat that the cook slices off of a large conical piece on a spit. But it doesn't have to be, as long as the meat tastes good. Yours did not taste good. I don't care if it's fresh if it isn't enjoyable. Likewise, every Pastizio I've ever heard of had bechamel (not mashed potatoes) on top. But that wouldn't have mattered if it tasted good. Yours didn't. Even without the potatoes, the noodles and meat were completely bland. I suggest that you taste these dishes and improve the recipes. As I said initially, the falafal and dolma DID taste good. Customers who want a decent gyro can go to It's Greek to Me, and those who want mooussaka or pastizio might try Mythos Teverna Greek Taverna in...

Older gentleman at the counter, most likely the owner was a literal ZERO. Not only did he give me attitude about daring to walk into his restaurant but he also denied having my catered order I was picking up. After a five minute back and fourth of me asking for my food he finally tells me i must’ve order at the wrong location. When I get in my car and pull off their road they decide to give me a call to tell me the foods been sitting there the whole time...

So the owner recently responded to my negative review, fabricating my story with his own lies. I’m glad he remembers me, but for some reason doesn’t have the decency to own up to the truth. He said something about somebody “calling to apologize about my behavior”. Nobody except me and him were aware of what transpired. I am not the only customer to write a negative review regarding HIM specifically. He is impatient and has no idea how to communicate with customers and the fact that he has to make up a lie about someone calling to “apologize” on my behalf just goes to show how honest a person...

Put in a take out order for lunch through their app. Upon arrival saw couple of tables placed outside for outdoor dining. Inside the store, it’s ocean blue, full on Santorini coast vibe. There’s a bench to wait for the order. Saw bunch of dessert items on display. The baklava looked amazing,l. The sugar glaze was sparkling.

The food is as amazing its other two sister stories. I loved the kebab soulvaki, very different from chicken one. Tzatziki sauce and greek salad were such wonderful complementary sides. The chicken souvlaki (meat only) was well cooked as well. The skewer had big chunks of kitchen marinated with amazing flavor.
