Brace yourselves, this is a long one.
This place is definitely tex-mex. I was craving nachos and this place hit the spot. The nachos were LEGIT! the enchiladas were good but only 2, a plate of enchiladas for that price usually has 3. The taste was there, food was delicious. I wish the service had been good because service alone brought my rating down to 1 star :(
Another negative, Its overpriced. But then again, its tex-mex. I ordered a flan and the thing was TINY. For $5 its DEFINITELY overpriced.
My main issue with this restaurant was The customer service. It was definitely lacking.
First of all, We had to sit ourselves. For some reason the host up front seemed MEGA lost. I assume they walk you to your tables, but when we entered he seemed to be caught up with 2 other customers. I had to literally chase the host down to ask if we had to wait to be seated or if we had to sit ourselves. He looked at me like a deer caught in headlights and said "yea, I guess you can sit yourself wherever you want."
We waited FOREVER to get a waiter. The hostess took our drink order and left. I had to ask a guy cleaning a table about who would take our order even though there were 4 servers no more than 2 feet from us. (Literally in front of our table).
Our server finally took our order. Delivered it promptly but then disappeared. My husband finished his beer and no one refilled his water.
I'm looking around, making eye contact with other servers clearly showing I need attention and they ALL ignored me. I observed every single server nearby and they KNEW I needed service and they ignored it. They wouldnt even tell our server we needed attention.
Finally, a lady came over to ask if we needed a refill. I dont know if she was the manager or just another server but she was the only one that came to check on us.
I even asked our server what was up with the service. And this is after my husband had to get up, walk to the bar and get his attention.... in an empty restaurant. I even mentioned how all the other servers ignored us even though we made eye contact with them!! he apologized.
In my opinion, this is terrible. How do you expect to run an effective restaurant if they sabotage each other. The old-timer servers ignored every table that wasn't theirs and the younger servers were nowhere to be found. Smh I'm so disappointed. Had our service been good, I would've rated this place with 4 or 5 stars.
We always leave great tip, the service was so mediocre that we just left 10%. And that was too much.
I tried to talk to a manager but they brought me someone that was "in charge." I gave him constructive criticism but I doubt he will pass along the message.
Lol
I told him that the food was great, but the service was lacking. I explained how I tried to get the other servers attention and they all literally made eye contact and looked away.
I even said " you know, if you dont feel like taking care of a table that's not yours just let us know that our server will be right with us and then give them a heads up." The guy said, "yea,we usually do that".
I told them that they couldn't even blame it on the place being busy because it was nearly empty.
My husband says that it was lacking service because the game was going on, but I dont believe that justifies poor service
I've been a server, so i can tell when a table needs attention just by observing body language. They can watch a game and still check on each other's...

Are most the reviewers in a food coma? Are they dreaming? What are they talking about that this is good food? Have they never been to El Tiempo Cantina (in Vintage Park across town in Spring) where there's actual amazing Mexican food? Or any authentic Tex-Mex restaurant where they scratch make chips, tortillas, SALSA, and, I don't know, perhaps make their own ranch instead of handing us the literal Hidden Valley Ranch bottle that's undoubtedly made it's rounds over the last several days according to the aging and degradation of the bottle itself?
For any Mexican or Tex-Mex place to be worthy of the name, let alone an average 4+ star rating, you better be making authentic masa tortillas, fresh salsa, and how hard is it to make your own chips instead of buying in bulk and hoping they taste okay days later?
I'm fairly convinced the people who are giving this place a high rating are either employees, friends of employees, or just happy that there's a place that has margaritas within walking distance. I mean, food always seems to taste better when you're drinking, right?
As for the staff, the two times we went - that's right, I gave this place a second chance! - they were nice, not over-the-top amazing or all that memorable. They were hosts and waiters doing their jobs. Nothing to write home or a review about.
The main concern I have is how this level of food is acceptable. I know the cooks can step it up. I know the owners should step it up. I mean, to each their own, but it boggles the mind how people can phone in Mexican food in Houston and still remain...
Read moreWe've driven pass Beto's Grill dozens of times the over the years and finally decided to try it for dinner (08/2023). The inside is bright and seemed pretty clean. We were seated right away and the server took our drink order right away and had the drinks there quickly. After that, however, we found ourselves sitting and waiting for our waiter to finally show up after being there for 15 minutes. There were plenty of waitstaff and management moving around on the floor, but the only employee that noticed we were waiting to order was the door attendant. We went ahead and ordered a couple appetizers even though we knew they might arrive at the same time as our food. We ordered the Stuffed Jalapenos ($9), and though they did arrive before our meal, there were only two of them. In most Mexican restaurants you would get at least four stuffed jalapenos for that price. The jalapenos were just "okay" not worth the price. The second appetizer was the queso which was very watery and without any flavor. Only the kids at the table enjoyed it. We tried the beef & chicken fajitas and a few other chicken dishes. The verdict was the same across the board; the food was "okay" but there wasn't a single dish that anyone thought we should come back and have again. The environment, although pleasant, is extremely loud. All conversations from every table echo across the restaurant. Not a great place for a quiet date. Even though it wasn't a terrible experience, we probably won't eat here again unless somebody invites us and is...
