Stopped by last night after an urgent care visit. It was 8pm ish and the chairs were up on the tables already (store closes at 9pm) so me and my daughter couldn't stay and eat our treat. Then the girl looked like she was high as a kite. I asked her what the seasonal was and she said "I don't know, I can't tell you anything about it, lets just say blueberry based on the color". You would think that if someone was working there by themselves then they could describe the flavor options. I gave her the order, 1 donut at a time, and she kept forgetting. She would go from speaking where we could hear her to whispering and mumbling. She could barely keep her eyes open. I asked if she was OK or just sleepy, she said she worked all week from 2pm-9pm. But you could tell this girl was on something.. if I were thr manager, I'd definitely pull those cameras (March 21). She should not have been working that business by herself with how out...
Read moreMy wife and I visited San Antonio for the first time last week, and when the donut craving hit, we decided to check out Shipley’s since we’d heard such great things. It absolutely lived up to the hype! The donuts were fresh, soft, and made to perfection—you can truly taste the difference. I also had my very first kolache here, and wow… so fluffy and flavorful. Highly recommend the sausage, cheese, and jalapeño!
Beyond the incredible food, what really stood out to me was the warmth of the staff. We had the pleasure of meeting Berny, the store manager, who was very friendly, professional, and clearly passionate about both Shipley’s and the San Antonio community. If you’re lucky enough to meet him, you’ll see exactly what I mean.
I don’t usually write reviews, but this shop is a gem worth sharing. If you’re in San Antonio, do yourself a favor and stop by—you won’t regret it! My wife and I will...
Read moreI really did not enjoy this Shipleys. Ordered half a dozen donuts and 4 ham and cheese kolaches. The kolaches were low quality - I wish we didn’t waste the calories eating then but we were in a rush. I’m surprised because generally Shipley kolaches are light and fluffy and good. These were hard as a rock - the most likely thought is that they served me left overs from yesterday which is disappointing. It had no cheese inside and was just a shell of hard bread and a roll of deli meat. The donuts were fine - but this is the only donut place I’ve encountered that doesn’t have a old fashioned donut - which is weird. I’ll just go to one of the Asian spots in the future - very sad to see this low quality so close to where I live. Also thought it was weird that the employees all parked next to the door where you would generally want...
