Extremely Disappointed. Worst South Indian Food Experience in Dallas.
I visited Annam South Indian Restaurant on June 21st at around 4 PM. The restaurant was nearly empty with just two tables occupied, yet it took 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order — which was already a bad sign.
We ordered: • Non-Veg Meals • Ghee Karam Idly • Tomato Rice • Pulihora
And honestly, this was one of the worst meals I’ve had in the entire Dallas area.
Here’s what went wrong: • Food arrived after 35 minutes, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. • Rice in the meals was undercooked, completely unacceptable. • Goat curry had no salt, tasted bland and watery. • Poori was half-cooked, doughy and unpleasant to eat. • Tomato rice was tasteless — hard to even describe how bad it was. • Pulihora was dry, stale, and had a weird aftertaste — not edible. • The only thing remotely okay was the idly, and that too seemed like it was made in the morning and just reheated.
When I politely informed the staff, the reply I got was: “It’s Tamil Nadu style, not Andhra style.” That’s just a lazy excuse. I’ve had Tamil Nadu food my whole life — this wasn’t a matter of regional flavor, it was just bad, uncooked, careless food.
They offered to replace only one item, not the rest, which again makes no sense when the entire meal was sub-par.
Paid $50 for food we could barely eat. Quantity was very less it Doesn’t even matter when quality is this bad.

Read moreI recently picked up Kongu Mutton Vellai Biryani and Thalapakatti Mutton Biryani from Annam South Indian Restaurant. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a polite and welcoming manager at the front. There was a minor glitch with my order, but they quickly fixed it without any fuss.
About the food: I could see, smell, and taste the distinct variations between the two dishes. The food had a subtle flavor profile without an overpowering masala smell or excess oil. It was enjoyable, and I could keep eating without feeling overwhelmed. However, there are a few areas that could be improved.
The reason for my 3-star rating is primarily due to the price vs. quantity ratio. In my opinion, the restaurant should either reduce the prices or increase the container sizes to offer better value for money compared to the competition. Additionally, the mutton pieces in the dishes were dry and seemed to be reheated rather than freshly made. As a new restaurant, maintaining freshness is crucial, especially considering the prices charged. Customers expect and deserve fresh, high-quality food for the price they pay.
Overall, Annam South Indian Restaurant offers good flavors and commendable service, but there's room for improvement in terms of pricing and...
Read moreToday we were here for the 3rd time for the breakfast buffet - it was excellent, steaming hot and fresh, we had almost everything on the buffet and made to order - thatte idli’s, masala dosa, pooris and rava kesari for dessert. Did not get to have vada’s as they weren’t ready yet, will try appams on next visit. Coffee was great too but a little too sweet. Yesterday we came for lunch. I had the combination Hakka noodles, was excellent (indo Chinese), wife had masala dosa and daughter had thatte idli’s Couple weeks ago I had the mutton platter meal, wife had masala dosa and daughter idlis with sugar (cant handle spicy food lol) We love that the food is fresh and authentic South Indian unlike most of the other Indian restaurants in the area that are sorta formulaic and not fresh nor authentic. Hopefully they will keep it the same way and we can dine here regularly, at least twice a week. I recommended them to wife’s uncle and cousins and last week they picked up biryanis and noodles...
