Jonah’s was highly recommended by a friend, so when I visited Thomasville it was on my radar. Checked it out and enjoyed it! Our server Allicia was seriously one of the kindest and most smiley souls I’ve met! She seriously elevated the experience! Concerning the food, I had pretty high expectations based off of the reviews on Google.
What I can say from going was that the basket of hush puppies we were given (which was complementary) was just as amazing as the reviews say! Didn’t disappoint whatsoever.
We also got the cyclone shrimp as an appetizer. They weren’t super heavily breaded which I appreciated! But it was still pretty rich and heavy, and it honestly wasn’t very different from most bang bang shrimp.
Decided to order the Cajun shrimp and grits as well since that was also highly recommended. The shrimp was so juicy and well-seasoned! The grits weren’t extraordinary, but were still good. Also, I asked if they could remove the bacon from them, but they said they aren’t able to do modifications for the grits I believe. I ate around the bacon, and I’m totally fine with the inability to modify them, I just wanted to share that in case anyone was planning to get the shrimp and grits but didn’t want everything in them.
I also ordered the shrimp and scallop pesto pasta. The sauce was amazing! Creamy and nicely flavored. Pesto tends to have a very overpowering flavor at times, but I thought it was well-balanced in the sauce. The pasta was also perfectly cooked al dente. The shrimp was weirdly not as well cooked in the pasta as it was in the grits. It was more overcooked, so a bit dry. The scallops were alright as well.
While I did make a few critiques here and there, it was overall a nice place and I enjoyed...
Read moreMy family and I visited Jonah's for the first time earlier this week and were really looking forward to the experience. We have read and heard so many great stories about this restaurant. The restaurant is super cute, and our waitress was sweet, and the service was great. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends for us. The food was not great. Not sure if they were having an off night but the food was NOT GOOD. My husband ordered the fried catfish, and we pondered if it was really catfish. The fried pieces were so tough that he couldn’t use his fork to cut/separate the flakes of the fish. We spoke to our waitress about the situation and with no hesitation she insisted we send the plate back to the kitchen. I really appreciated her willingness to get our meal right. The replacement pieces came out quickly and they too were tough. I ordered the Cajun shrimp and grits and there wasn’t anything Cajun about this dish. It wasn’t terrible, it just wasn’t that great. We felt very rushed throughout our meal – couldn’t finish the salads and the entrees were already being shoved into our face with limited space on the table. Even the bus boys were hovering over us while we were trying to sign the check. Last, there were black flies. Big Black Flies and we were constantly ‘swooing’ them away with napkins. THE ENTIRE MEAL. I finally had it when a fly landed in my shrimp and grits that I wasn’t really enjoying in the first place. At that point it was time to get the check and we had only been seated in the establishment for about...
Read moreGreat cuisine! Four years ago that is what I wrote the first time I dined at Jonah's, shortly after they opened. Between time to make the drive to Thomasville and the pandemic, regrettably I must admit I hadn't been back until last week. But BABYYYY, I quickly learned I've been missing out and it will now be a regular trip for dinner! The crab stuffed salmon was AMAZING! As a texture person, I can't stress enough the importance of how food "feels" before I focus on the "taste." I can't count how many times I've ordered my salmon medium at dozens of restaurants and I've had to send it back or settle for dry salmon. OMG! Jonah's chef made it perfect!!! I don't think I've ever had better salmon!!! And those creamy, perfectly seasoned, garlic mashed potatoes... if I didn't know better, I'd think they had my grandmother back there in the kitchen!!! And let me not forgot those hushpuppies, which you can't keep quiet about!!! Talk about texture and flavor! The perfect combination of light and crispy crust with a flavorful and almost fluffy bread center (well at least as fluffy as cornbread can be, and still be cornbread.😉) And the icing on the cake was Alex!!! The excellent dining experience Alex created was EVERYTHING!!! He was so knowledgeable about the menu, gave excellent recommendations, and so meticulous in accommodating all needs and desires! I will ask for Alex EVERY TIME! Oooh, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! I know it's mid-week, but I may have to make a run to Thomasville...
