Oak and Iron — Restaurant in Thousand Oaks

We had some people visiting from the UK it turns out he is as am I a lover of all things bourbon we would find a place to experience different offerings the right way. Found Oak and Iron to be the closest and seemed to fit our small party perfectly. This place is my new favorite place to play. The drinks were perfect. And there were many to be had. I’ve never had a bar tender or server explain in such detail how a drink is made or given choices of what spirit to use with yet more education. I am hooked on this place. Tried making first Japanese whisky and was not disappointed. And yes more education. We sampled many from the bar on recommendation and I cannot for the life of me say how much we all appreciated the experience. All told I think we each had about 9-10 cocktails all were outstanding. Especially the brown butter Manhattan and Fernet Fury. I have never had anything with so much flavor and complexity in my life. Had a few pours of whistle pig 15 and I found a new favorite. So good. The service was absolutely phenomenal. I wish I could remember her name but I’m horrible with names but she was the sweetest young woman and was so attentive to all her tables. We never were without a full glass be it water whisky or ginger beer for our DD. I can’t wait to bring my wife in to experience what I did last night. Great drinks and great staff! Not only do they make you feel like family but they are super professional. I was super impressed by bartender Ryan as I witnessed him cutting off some very intoxicated customers in such an eloquent and professional way. This is a high end establishment and he offered them some water before serving them to make sure they were ok. Regardless of his kindness, it wasn’t well received by the clearly intoxicated patrons and as they exited (hastily I might add) yet he remained calm, smiled and wished them a safe ride home. I don’t own a bar, but if I did, this would be an employee I would want. Not only looking out for the well being of the customer but the integrity of the bar and the rest of us here who enjoy this place. Thank you Ryan for caring about everyone involved. Great drinks and whiskey selection in a great atmosphere. It’s a nice little taste of LA or NYC in the sleepy town of TO. Been here a few times and the staff is always on point and welcoming. If you don’t like crowds, I would suggest going during the week Monday - Wednesday for a better vibe and more industry folks.

Best selections are whiskey and Gin for the drinks and wish they would scale up a bit on the top shelf vodkas with a Belvedere or Chopin to boost the quality of the menu.
