The wife and I were on one of our scenic Oregon coast road trips and we found ourselves hungry and traveling towards Tillamook. We were bestowed a gift card from pelican brewery and had a balance left so we thought a fish and chip lunch would be a wonderful accent to our summer drive down the coast. The pelican brewery establishment is located in Tillamook but not near the water like other locations. With the pandemic in full effect this restaurant had a magnificent setup for being able to get a tasty lunch and still social distance and do all of the things required to be in public these days. The attendant was very helpful although the order was relatively simple. While I was waiting I walked back to the vehicle where the wife was waiting for me and told her everything was a go and it'd be just a minute. From that point on I'm not really sure what happened other than to conclude I was forgotten. There were people in line waiting to order they were not a lot of people sitting around eating or drinking. After I saw someone behind me in line getting their food I had to assume my order had to be ready so I found a young lady who was controlling foot traffic and asked her if anybody had any idea about my order. She asked me if my name was Bob and I told her it was and she went inside came out with a bag handed it to me. Return to the car and told the wife to check to make sure everything was correct. There was one small tartar sauce to ketchup packets three pieces of fish and tater tots. There was nothing dramatic or presentable it was all just kind of thrown in the box. No lemon wedge which you would assume would be added to fish and chips no garnishment no presentation.
I want to give this establishment every benefit of the doubt. When you're charging $30 for two orders of fish and chips there's a certain level of expectation. The tater tots were not done and were somewhat raw and chewy in the center. The tartar sauce barely covered one piece of fish and I was sure I asked the gentleman for cocktail sauce because my wife doesn't like tartar sauce but there was none there. I feel this is a beautiful establishment with all of the right accoutrements but poor customer service and poor quality food is a really sad end result of our trip to this restaurant. I know I should have sought out a manager I know I should have sought out corrective action but as a customer it is very tiring to try and be taken care of based on our...
Read moreFirst experience at a Pelican Brewing Co. location and cannot complain! Learned there are 4 total locations, northernmost being in Cannon Beach and southernmost being in Siltez Bay, and in between in Pacific Beach and Tillamook (this location).
Service is order up at the counter, get a buzzer, pick up your own food, and seat yourself either inside or outside (which os dog friendly). If you don't mind this mostly self-service then you'll love this spot, especially on a good weather day. Food was good, we order across the board - Buffalo chicken wings, Brussel sprouts, chowder, kids cheeseburger and chicken fingers, fish tacos and fish and chips. Fish is Alaskan cod, the fish and chips had previously frozen water run off, the gosh tacos did not. Everything was as expected, nothing outstanding but also not terrible. We tried all three of their ciders - Marionberry, pineapple, and original. All went down happily!
Two gender neutral restrooms inside, both clean and well stocked. Water is self serve, one inside next to order pick up and one outside. Corn hole outside, and a lounge area for casual hang outs. Overall super glad we made the stop after visiting the Tillamook Creamery, brought the pup, and hope to visit the newest table service location...
Read moreOTR Truck driver here. I've had Fish & Chips all over this county. Here's my take on some of the previous bad reviews.
Someone said "cold and soggy!" I put this platter to the test. Scolding on the first bite and the last! I set one piece of fish to the side, ate the other two and the chips. Finished my beer and went after the last piece of fish. Still steaming, Scolding hot, and no doubt, the freshest Cod I've had in my life. If someone had cold & soggy fish here, I'd be willing to bet they weren't paying attention to their pager and let it sit on the counter too long.
Place is busy busy busy. Something to think about. When people write bad reviews, have you ever contemplated its an employee or owner of competition down the street?
If I have to pick anything that needs improvement, it's the one till that processes every order. This place is far too busy for one service station. Staff is stretched a little thin, but manageable for one service station. The line stays backed up out the door, leaving it almost impossible to get a refill at the bar.
I sure hope I get another load coming back to...
