Not sure what all the fuss is regarding this place. While I was anxious to visit based on reviews, my experience left me disappointed. To start with, the place is beat up and smells of cigarette smoke. It must be from the bar area but I thought smoking was not permitted in all restaurants in PA. Once in the dining area, the smoke smell disappeared. Now this place has been around for decades so I was surprised the menu was printed on a crumpled, stained 11 x 17 piece of paper folded into an old worn out plastic folder. D+ as this could be an easy fix.
The place seems well staffed and the attention to the needs of the customers appeared exemplary. They were pleasant and professional and service was timely. "A+"
The menu was plentiful and diverse and in some ways it had too many selections which makes one wonder how fresh the ingredients. My guest started with the soup of the day, a cup of chicken noodle. Much too salty. I had a small salad...it was just okay, iceberg lettuce, a few onions and a couple slices of cucumber. "C" My guest had the clams casino for a meal and I had the grilled salmon with broccoli and a baked potato. Isn't it standard procedure to mince the clam and incorporate with the other ingredients and then put it in the shell to be broiled? Clams were whole, not minced, and some magic sauce was dumped on top. Taste and texture was terrible. My salmon was dry and the dill cream sauce came in a little plastic cup. Now I knew this place wasn't a top line restaurant, but I was at least expecting fresh dill sauce. My mistake. The broccoli was mushy and salty and for the baked potato, I didn't touch it as my appetite was gone. "C-" I like trying new places that are off the beaten track and happy I gave this place an attempt but I won't be back. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff on the wrong night...not sure but not going...
Read moreWas so excited to try it after hearing so many great things. Open for as long as it has it has to be amazing!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I unrolled my silverware and the fork had dried food all over it, the knife was so greasy. My friend didn't want me saying anything so gave me hers. I can't even make this up, they were dirty too! Ok I'm a waitress so I understand sometimes things get overlooked. Excited for my Pina colada, rarely find a place that makes them,!!! Couldn't taste even a hint of alcohol, glass have full of whipped cream over a milk slush. Whatever can't wait to eat, food supposed to be amazing!!! The Caesar salad was really good!!! Dressing tasted homemade!!! Clams casino is one of my favorites!! Rubbery clams with this weird pepper stuff . Gave up chewing after about 5 mins. Broiled seafood isn't difficult to make . Guess they forgot to take out, overcooked. Had to cut fish with a knife! Well salad was filling and basket of bread was nice. Wish the butter wasn't frozen!! I am someone who tries so hard to find the silver lining and hate those complainers in restaurants but find it so hard to spend almost 200$ on lunch for 3 people when most of food was inedible and my utensils had their own seasonings! (Side note: I tipped the waitress 50$ before anyone assumes different! She was amazing and we simply asked for boxes and couldn't bring ourselves to be Karen's and spend the whole lunch complaining and running her back and forth sending everything back. We just enjoyed getting to have girl time...
Read moreWhere do I start.. first we read some of the reviews. Very misleading. Everyone in my group had been there one time or another over many years. Most of our party were senior citizens.. so we have had a meal or two. The refreshments were great.. water.. soda.. ice tea. The salads were nothing but iceberg lettuce and some cucumbers..not all were that lucky. I did order the snapper soup. Very, very salty. Tough to finish. The entrees were chicken parmigiana.. fried chicken.. rib roast.. scallop casserole and chicken piccata. My daughter had the chicken Piccata. She finished her dinner, but it was very dry with no capers. The rib roast was like rubber and sent back..replaced by chicken piccata. My scallops were rubbery and in a strange sauce. A mix of burnt oil and butter with garlic. Fried chicken and chicken parmigiana were way over cooked. We never got pass the first bite ..take out containers were needed. The bill was slightly over 160.00. We left a generous tip of sixty dollars. The waitress seemed new.. but was very gracious and kind. I have worked in food and beverage for 50 years.. most in the AC casinos. This was a disgrace and I would suggest that you need to replace your cook.. he does not warrant being called a chef. And a handicap ramp would be a nice touch too. The reason for the 5 star on atmosphere was the fact the dining was void of customers except us. So it was a nice peaceful setting to enjoy our...
