If you want a Stromboli or a Cheesesteak or any sort authentic Philadelphia cuisine, this is a solid option! In fact, it's just a couple klicks south of Philadelphia city limits proper, but don't get hung up on that boundary. Maybe I am partial because I am born Delco (County of Pennsylvania NOT to be confused with the State of Delaware). Some fanatics say if it's not in Philadelphia it's not the real thing - ignore that at least here you can enjoy a Coke with your meal without that asinine sugar tax. Unless you are diabetic or have some sort of legitimate medical ailment please smack upside the back of your head for even thinking about ordering that Coke as a Diet. Although I won't give this place the nod on the best Cheesesteak ever, it is a solid representation. If you just jumped off a plane and want to sample a Cheesesteak, this is an excellent place to get your fix, it’s certainly better than Pat’s or Gino’s or that tourist branded rubbish. Their Stromboli is what you’re after and certainly belongs on any "best of" list. One point of criticism is that this establishment isn't very good for pasta. My girlfriend was in the mood for Spaghetti and Meatballs and that's what she ordered. She raved on the meatballs, but the spaghetti itself was mush. Understandably in a production kitchen that doesn't do much pasta it's all too easy to let set in the water for a tick or two too long. If you're after a proper pasta meal, go to Trieste or somewhere, that's not why you'd come here. I gave her a portion of my Stromboli and she was amazed.
Point is come here for the Stromboli, the Cheesesteak is a solid option, however this is not a...
Read moreDefinitely try one of Romano's strombolis at least once as they are awesome! They definitely live up to the reputation of being the original stromboli. I tried the original hot and it was an experience and a meal on its own. The dough was just right - just enough crunch on the outside, holds up the filling very well and the right amount of golden brown. The meat and cheese inside was perfect with creamy, melty cheese and a generous amount of meat inside. The marinara served on the side goes great and is very fresh...and the stromboli was just the right amount of heat. Just one thing - I'd recommend splitting this with two people as you get a lot of stromboli. Overall, Romano's has the feel of a little neighborhood Italian ristorante that is well kept and very cozy. The waiter who was attending to the dining area when I went was very friendly and attentive making sure both myself and the other party had what we needed and very personable. Not much else to say on the atmosphere; it's a simple restaurant and it does it right. I would love to try some of the other fair based on the hot stromboli as what I saw served at the other table looked very appetizing and tasty and I do enjoy Italian food and pizza. A couple of things to note: 1 - cards are accepted but cash is preferred (they do have a charge added if you're paying with card) and 2 - this place is BYOB. Overall, I very much enjoyed the eating at Romano's and will definitely be coming back for another visit to try either a cheesesteak...
Read moreI'll start by saying that I am so glad I found this place! It's a clean and comfortable local eatery, that's Nationally known as being the birthplace of the Stromboli (verified). A lot of the local restaurants and dinners around the area make you leave feeling smelly and greasy, due to poor ventilation in the building, but not Romano's! It's clean and pleasant! (I know that's a weird critique, but I don't want to feel like I need a shower and to wash clothes after I eat). Having said that, the staff is very friendly, they have a wide array of fairs on thier menu, and the food is delicious! My first experience, I ordered some sort of Italian sandwich and fries, delicious! The second time, a side salad and cheesesteak stromboli. The salad lettuce seemed a bit stale, but it was good nonetheless. The Stromboli was slightly different than what I've had in other places, but this is the ORIGINAL, and it was DELICIOUS! So large, that I took a 3rd of it home for later.
I'm so glad I found this place! I just started renting a crashpad, about 5 houses down from Romano's, so it's a 45 second walk to get some delicious food. I'm excited to be able to make this my regular go to eatery when I'm in town, and try the various items on thier menu. Can't wait to try the tomato pie and square pizza next! Check it out, you...
