Golden Lily Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Toledo

I'm not a big fan of sit down Chinese food. I tend to favor several good Chinese buffets in the area however I decided to give the Golden Lily a try. I was more than pleasantly surprised. I haven't had Chinese food quite this good since China Gate went out of business over a decade ago. I had almost forgotten what great egg rolls taste like. A huge role filled with cabbage, veggies and good size shrimp. With a crispy thin-crust....you can even cut it with a fork. Next came the hot and sour soup which had a delicious hint of sesame and just enough heat to make it interesting! The entree was equally as good. I had the Mongolian beef with extra spice and it did not disappoint. The beef was tender and juicy and the sauce was just perfect! Overall I would rate this restaurant as one of the best Chinese places I have ever eaten. The only other traditional Chinese restaurant in town that comes close is Jing Chuan on Secor rd. We used to eat at the Golden Lily when it was in downtown Toledo. I moved from the Toledo area 39 years ago and came through the area again this week and found the Golden Lily in a new area of South Toledo. My wife remembered the Sweet and Sour dish having Strawberries in it as well as other fruits and vegetables so she ordered it again this time and it had strawberries and all of the other goodies in it as she remembered it. I had the Mongolian Beef and it was delicious! The flavors of both dishes are so fresh and flavorable. The Golden Lily is an original Toledo Chinese Restaurant and has been owned for at least 3-4 generations of the Loo Family and it continues to have the best Chinese Food in the Toledo Area. We have lived all over the country including the Pacific Rim where Chinese Food was very common and I can say it does not compare to the Golden Lily. This is by far what I believe to be the best Chinese food in the city. Hands-down. I’ve never had a bad experience and I keep coming back for more. It is the best almond boneless chicken I have ever had anywhere in the United States and chicken lo mein is awesome. Despite the great tasting food, you will pay some money eating here. Today I ordered a Almond boneless chicken dinner combo with chicken fried rice And an order of chicken lo mein. It was $40. Their prices keep going up, and while the food taste great, I think it’s starting to outweigh the value. I have been eating at this place since I was a kid and they were downtown. But, I simply cannot pay $40 for a combo and order of chicken lo mein. So, I am looking for a new place to get Chinese food and will keep this place as a special occasion only Dinner. I imagine they are probably losing quite a few customers to these price hikes. I understand that they cost may have gone up a little, But what they are charging the customers is...
