I love Indian food and I just moved back to Toledo and had to give up my favorite place in Ft. Wayne so I was eager to get my hands on some Indian cuisine in Toledo, my hometown. I went to Tandoor Cuisine of India because it's just up the road from my house. I walked in and had to wait a bit to be seated though there wasn't anyone serving and no one waiting to be seated.
I asked for a booth and was seated across the way from everyone else. That was fine but it took forever for someone to actually take my order. Another customer in the corner was constantly asking the waiter to bring out his soup he ordered a while back.
Anyway, finally after about 30 min of wait time I was brought out my food. I always get the same any and everywhere I go. Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan and a side of Lamb Seek. To my surprise the food was extremely bland. The Tikka Masala was the worst I'd ever tasted as it tasted like it was canned and not fresh at all. I couldn't taste the butter and there was just no flavor in it. The Lamb Seek was hard and so flavorless that I thought it was ground beef and not lamb! It too tasted bland, no flavor and I just couldn't finish.
When a random waiter asked how my food was I told him it "wasn't bad" to be nice before actually telling him what I really thought when I checked out. There was no passion in the food here. With Indian Cuisine it's almost like the chef telling a story with the spices, flavors, and colors and this place did not bring that to me. I'll be trying the other ones I've found in Toledo in hopes that they care about their...

Read moreFirst off, it's been a while since I've felt compelled to comment on how good a restaurant is in Toledo. Every day there is another gastronomic Napolean setting off on their conquest. I get tired of keeping up with everything I shove into my esophagus. Tandoor, however, is a rare exception.
The seating is quaint; small and pretty low-key. They bring you a caraffe of water. The staff is friendly. They even have a 10.95 buffet with plenty of options to choose from. But, Tandoor really shines with the menu items if you know your clay pot or curry. Get naan bread, I recommend garlic naan. The mango yogurt drink is like a milkshake, which was effing delish.
My broski and I got mango curry, asked for it to be spicy. You get a little dish of what looks like gravy and a bottomless bowl of rice. You put rice on your plate, then you spoon the curry on top. That goes in your face. When Indian people say spicy, think Thai food. They will literally make your sinuses leak; it's perfect. Also, all of their food is extremely filling. Expect to spend about 10-15 per person, I cashed out just at twenty bucks.
On the note of service, I really enjoyed how friendly everyone was. I DID NOT WAIT for anything. The were on top of their game, smiled and spoke clearly. If you're a racist person, drink bleach; but the mostly Indian staff spoke better English than 9/10 of local area Ohioans.
All-in-all 10/10, this is now my regular lunch stop when I'm on the Maumee...
