My husband and I flew all the way from Iceland during a pandemic to attend my mother’s wedding, only to get food poisoning from this once stellar company. I’m writing this review today to share my personal experience with any upcoming folks who may consider Michael’s Catering for their next event.
The wedding reception was held at the St. Michael’s Center / Hall in Oregon Ohio on March 13th 2021 and Michael’s Catering is the contracted company, therefore they had to be used. Which in previous years for other events our family has had (weddings, graduations, funerals, holiday parties, etc) it had not been an issue. As the original owner previously would deliver extraordinary service at extremely high standards. But fast forward to the transition from the original couple who owned the company to the new, they have now fallen short and compromised the once amazing reputation, we relied on and grew to expect.
Firstly, the food was barely warm and tasteless when it arrived to the head table. Second, the staff delivered the food out of table order serving the guests in the back by the kitchen next, instead of the family tables up front nearest to the head table. In fact, I had to stop eating to address it with the hostess when each course was being delivered incorrectly. Third, the bride and groom had envelopes for tipping which I delivered later that evening. However, the Michael’s Catering hostess, stated that there were 2 less staffers in attendance than what was scheduled, invoiced, and paid for.
Within 30 hours of the event concluding my husband begins to exhibit flu-like symptoms. Next, family members and guests from the wedding begin to reach out to the bride and groom telling them they were extremely sick and could not go to work. In fact, 2 separate guests ended up being treated in the ER for their sickness. The documented count was 42 people out of 59 became sick and the only commonality between everyone at this masked event was the food from Michael’s Catering. Which is truly unfortunate because my husband and I spent our week visit in bed recovering instead of spending time with my mom and new father.
The most unprofessional and disrespectable part in all of this was the fact that not once did anyone from Michael's Gourmet Catering, Inc. reach out to the couple to apologize or address the situation in any way. After an investigation by the Lucas County Health Department the Norovirus was documented within their final report. Even after, Michael’s Gourmet Catering...
Read moreMichael's Gourmet Catering just catered our daughter's wedding recently. Hayley, the manager and event coordinator, is simply incredible! We met with her several times to discuss menu and every other detail. She is extremely organized and professional. She made sure every little thing was decided on beforehand and taken care of. She was able to help us with anything we needed and worked with other vendors to make sure we had everything we needed. We were able to attend a tasting dinner ahead of our event which helped us (and other couples with their families) decide menus. She was always quick to return any emails or calls and leading up to the wedding I had no concerns about the food or service at our reception. The day of our event Hayley and her staff were incredible helping us set up things and get ready. We had appetizers and also traditional dinners through them. They also included a set up of iced tea, lemonade, coffee and ice water which was nice. We used one of their bartenders and he was awesome too. The food was FANTASTIC and everyone was complimenting it. Everything they make/bring is homemade. One of the entrees we chose was chicken paprikash and it was so good! All of the serving staff was professional, friendly and very attentive to us and our guests. There was never a dirty plate sitting around. We had a Grandmother that was in a wheelchair and they made sure to speak to her and make her a plate to make it easier for her. We also had some vegetarians/vegans in attendance and we spoke to Hayley regarding that ahead of time. She was wonderful helping us customize some menu items so that those guests felt included and had options. At the end of the evening they were fantastic about packing up all of the leftovers and sending them home with us. They even provided individual meals and snacks for the bride and groom for the next day. I honestly cannot think of anything they could've done better and were very satisfied with everything!
We have also visited their restaurant and bakery in Toledo too. We enjoy their daily specials and have always had great service there and the food is always delicious. I would highly recommend Michael's to anyone for their catering needs or to even stop at their restaurant for lunch. You will not be...
Read moreI absolutely love eating at Michael's. Everything there is made from scratch and it tastes like it. The rolls are not something to overlook - they are fluffy, moist, smell amazing and taste amazing. Their salads are hearty and delicious - the kind of salad with toppings that last the entire time eating it. The sandwiches are excellent and there's quite a variety all with high quality ingredients. Their soups are wonderful for the chilly months and they have a nice variety daily.
One thing that makes this place unique is that they take requests if there's something you'd like to see on their menu. I've yet to do this because the menu is varied enough for my tastes. Their customer service is pretty great too, with the staff being friendly and helpful when it comes to food allergies.
I highly recommend the cheddar jalapeño roll, garlic parmesan roll, garden salad, the Easy Street sandwich, and their chicken and dumplings soup. I don't recommend the petite options because if you're getting a sandwich it comes on a roll instead of the bread it shows on the menu. I suggest purchasing the large options instead....
