BOTTOM LINE: The food I had was very good. The jazz music was loud and I could not hear my wife talking to me. The wait staff needed to pay better attention to the customers, maybe this is a side effect of the loud music. I would have liked to have tried their pizza but I was not able to. I am going to wait a while before I return here to give them time to work out the kinks in the service. I encourage any of you reading my review to try it to form your own opinion. They may have been having a bad day. I described our experience below.
My wife and I drove by and saw this place open so we thought we would try it. We ordered ciabatta garlic cheese bread. We wanted to order individuals of a couple of their specialties to try them out, but that was not an option. So we thought we would order a half and half specialty. That was not available so we ordered a meat lover. We waited 15 minutes for the bread, but it came out wrong. They fixed it but it took 15 more minutes. The garlic bread and sauce was very good. Their sauce has a little kick to it. Back to our pizza. We waited for 30 minutes after we received the garlic bread. The pizza never came. When I asked about it, I got the feeling it had never been made. I asked for my ticket and it came out with garlic bread and Cheese Pizza Sticks. I think the waitress ordered the wrong item for us and that is what caused our pizza...
Read moreI went here on a date night with my husband recently. The place was almost completely empty aside from a few people playing pool. We planned on getting pizza, dessert and hanging out for the rest of the evening drinking. After we were sat, the waitress came and asked what we wanted to drink. I asked for a beer menu to which I was told they didn’t have any. I asked if they had any Pilsner beers and she said she didn’t know and would get the bartender. Bartender came over and I again asked what pilsners they had. She told me she didn’t know what that was. A commonly consumed type of beer that most places at least have one or 2 different brands of… I told her it was a type of beer and she said “never heard of it.” A bartender that doesn’t know types of beers is pretty disappointing. I settled for a local wheat beer, which was served at about room temp. It tasted terrible. Husband and I waited around 40 minutes for our pizza and were still the only customers in the eating area. The pizza wasn’t that great, so we asked for the check to leave. Waited another 20 minutes for that to come out… We paid, left and went to a different local place for good beer and dessert. We won’t be coming back here, Topeka has plenty of good pizza places and this isn’t...
Read moreI've been to 43Ten a couple of times now, always on a weekday during the lunch buffet. While the choices of pizza are a bit limited, the pizza really tastes good and it's always hot. Usually have about 4 different types to pick from: cheese, pepperoni, beef and then a "supreme"-type of pizza, plus dessert pizza and bread sticks. Plenty of seating, plenty of parking.
The service was a bit slow both times I've been in, and I was tempted to give 4 starts instead of five, but my guess is that they've had trouble finding employees just like almost every other place in town, so I decided not to deduct a star for this. Hopefully, they'll get the staffing issue figured out before long.
Bottom line: Good food, but a few more options on the buffet would be nice. Great place for lunch. I haven't been there in the evening or on a weekend, but I'm sure it's the same great pizza, but if you order your own, you get to pick the toppings (obviously). Of course, you can order from the menu rather than do buffet during lunch hour, too, but I never have time for that.
It's nice to see a local place with a great product at a great price. Better than the...
