10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND* I’ve been visiting this establishment since I was a child, and it’s honestly made a major turn for the worst the past year or so. Long story short the quality of food is not worth what is being charged, wait staff is terrible, and the manager is extremely disrespectful and lacks basic customer service. We had a 1pm reservation and was not seated until at least 1:30. Definitely not a good place go when there are plans afterwards. This visit was 3 hours long.
Today my whole family was finally able to get together and took me out to eat for my first Mothers Day. Of course I choose Kikus, because that’s where we’ve celebrated my entire life. Though, from beginning to end this experience is by far the worst I’ve ever experienced in ANY restaurant.
Our table wasn’t given our soup or salad for a good 40 minutes after being seated, and was not given refills on our PAID drinks but once at the end of the meal. The ginger salad dressing had little to no ginger in it, and the soup while hot was extremely bland and tasteless. Salt improved the flavor and made it more like what was given to me in the past, I’m not sure if with the change in management they’ve decided to cut costs but the quality of food is no longer worth what they’re charging.
Once the waitress finally took our orders, and the chef came out there were immediate issues with what was written by the waitress as our order as it had multiple mistakes. The chef, who I unfortunately didn’t get the name of but comes from a small island, was absolutely amazing and did everything he could to make it right. He personally left his station because he was being ignored by the wait staff to get more veggies, the correct cut of steak, more crab because they did not give enough for the entire parties order, and had to get more soy sauce himself. Though, due to him having to leave so many times while the food was cooking it caused my steak to be very well done when I had requested medium, and the chicken to be burned. Again, that is not a reflection of this amazing chef, but the management and waiting staff. He was pleasant, made the food to the best of his ability, apologized for the errors made in amounts/cuts of meat, and did his best to make it a pleasant experience. It’s only due to him that I found any joy in the experience.
The biggest issue I had was with the disrespect I faced from the manager. When I asked to speak with him about the service I received he offered what I thought was a 50% discount, and proceeded to walk away while I was still speaking to him. At that point we had been at the restaurant for over an hour and a half, and I was ready to walk away from a fundamental part of a my childhood forever and never go back. The meat on my plate was inedible, and I had maybe took 6 bites of my rice. We then waited another half hour to receive our sherbet, and checks. Our food was cold by the time we finally got the bill, and I noticed that only 15% was taken off for a total of $17.00. At that point I told the waitress that would not work for me and I needed to speak with the manager again. There was no way I was going to pay over $100.00 for food I didn’t, and wouldn’t, eat. She walked away, and we waited another 15 minutes. By that point I was furious, so my mom ended up tracking down the manager to speak with him about my order specifically and he did agree to remove it from the tab, which I paid for and then left. Unfortunately due to his personal disrespect, and blatant disregard for acceptable customer service, I will never be going to a place where my family and I have easily spent at least $15,000 dollars at during my life. The owners used to personally visit our table each time we came in. Words can’t describe how disheartened I am to know that we will never celebrate there again. Some of my earliest memories are of the chefs lighting the fire, and making...
Read moreWorst Kikus experience ever. I will never be going back to this place.
First off, we went there for a birthday party and expected to get pretty good food and a show. Boy we were wrong. We had a party of 10 and we were all crammed into one booth which I had not issues with. When the cook first shows up usually they go over your order, puts the some fluid on the grill, big fire then starts cooking. Nope, not here. Grabs the rice and veggies which appears to be for a part of 7 not a party of 10 puts on the grill and starts to cook. Okay…I guess no fire we will just move on. Let’s move onto the steak, only asks half of the side how they want their steak cooked and the rest over the people that didn’t get asked just got whatever. Didn’t even salt or pepper the steak. The biggest thing that upset me was the Scallops. Three of us ordered Scallops. Gave my sister fiancé some, grabs the rest of the scallops and gives them to my sister. I spoke up and said “Hey, I ordered scallops too”. He takes the scallops that he gave my sister, cuts them in half and gives me half of hers. Very upset at this point. Oh did I mention at this point we haven’t even received our vegies. Nearing the end of the meal the veggies are still off to the side simmering away. Never once did he mix them up. I’m actually glad there were so few veggies for our party because they were so soft due to being forgot about for the whole meal. As I said before I’m pretty upset at this point so the server comes around and ask how our meal was and That’s when I started to tell him everything. He looks at down at my plate which I hate most of it and said “Looking at your plate I can’t tell”. And that was the final straw for us.
You come to Kikus for a show and a meal. We got an okay meal, not worth the price for what we got and NO show. When we spoke to the manager all they did was remove the scallops off of my meal, remove the crab off of another meal (because the cook forgot it) and that was it. They didn’t try to make it right. We were just another customer they wanted in and out. I am really upset about the level of service we got from the cook and staff. I loved kikus, loved going there but from the service we go we will not...
Read moreMy family and I went here to celebrate with our daughter going back to California and had went to Umi steakhouse in Manhattan which we loved .... This place in comparison was terrible! The waiter didn't bring our drinks for about 15 minutes and when he did he brought 1 , we were a party of 5. I asked did he remember we ordered sodas and he said oh yeah let me check on those . Wow. We asked if they had shrimp tempura sushi and he said yes he thought so, which we ordered as an appetizer, the chef was already almost done with our meal and he comes back saying they don't have that , then the chef looked at him and said yes we do and named what it was on the menu.... After not even 5 minutes of having been served our food he asks do we need boxes ... Mind you we are just starting to eat our meal and haven't gotten our sushi yet. We tell him no not yet. He brings the sushi and asks are we ready for our sherbet that complete our meal, mind you we just received our sushi and have maybe been eating our main course maybe 10 minutes if that. We tell him no not yet thank you,. Maybe 5 minutes later here he comes with the sherbet, boxes , and check. Omg!!!! At this point I'm just ready to go. I'm irritated I'm trying to enjoy this $117 meal with my family and have had the worst service! Not to mention the quality of the food wasn't very good either =( I spoke to the manager and he apologized and said he's also young. He was not that young, and I expect way better service for the price paid. Needless to say this place is definitely not 4.4 star worthy. I would much rather make the drive to Manhattan and actually enjoy the time and meal...
