I went to Bruster's last night around 9:40p or so. While we were waiting for our ice cream, we saw 2 boys came and began talking to the other server. They were visibly friends, maybe even coworkers. She gave one of them an ice cream cone (I think it was oreo or cookies and cream). He ate it outside of the window, without a mask, while talking to the 2nd worker.
After we got our ice cream, we went back to our car. I was parked in front of the server windows so I had a clear view inside Bruster's while I was eating in my car. I saw the 2 guys walk out of view and when I looked into Bruster's, I saw that the boy with the cone was inside, not wearing a mask, done with his scoop. He still had the cone in his hand.
He walked over to the refrigeration unit where the girl scooped his flavor from, opened it, and got himself other scoop. He then, in his right hand, used the metal ice cream scoop to "sculpt" the ice cream while using his left hand to hold the cone. As he was doing it, I saw the metal scooper touch the cone, where his mouth had been, multiple times and I also saw flecks of the ice cream that was on the scooper fall off the metal scoop and back down into the refrigeration unit. Then he gave one final push of the metal scooper and the ice cream got on the cone. He put the scooper back into the refrigeration unit and shut it and walked out of view.
I've been going to Bruster's since they've opened and they've always been helpful and professional. That's why seeing this was so shocking. Without taking COVID into consideration, it's super disgusting that he would do that and the idea that cross-contamination between his mouth and the entire flavor is really gross. But coupled with COVID, seeing him walk INTO the store and scoop and do all this without wearing masks makes me REALLY uncomfortable to ever go back. Who knows what other workers have been doing or what other things could be going on with the flavors. If he had just gone over, scooped out another flavor, and immediately pushed it onto his cone without any scooper/mouth cone contact, I'd be okay with it. But this guy took the time to press the metal scooper, with the ice cream in it, back and forth on his cone, touching it multiple times and cause pieces of ice cream to fall off and back into the unit. That potential cross-contamination is really worrying. The mental image of me potentially eating ice cream with someone's saliva in it makes me sick.
I was able to call a manager today to express my concerns. The lady who answered my call was super nice and let me know that she'd look into it, which was reassuring. But, I don't think I'll be back again. I really appreciate Bruster's for giving local students an opportunity to work and their flavors and quality are so fresh and amazing but this has really put...

Read moreGreat ice cream and a good selection of flavors. They have a seasonal menu that changes periodically, so if you are looking for something to try, I definitely recommend any of those since they are usually unique and coincide with the season or if any fruits are in season.
I usually gravitate towards the New York Cheesecake or if I am really feeling it, I get the Strawberry Ice-cream that comes with Yellow Cake. You can sample any flavors if anythings good and your are still unsure.
I recommend joining the rewards program for a birthday reward as well as to rake up points if you visit often. They also share with you through emails what new flavors are coming in or if there are any promotions. One promotion thats long-standing is the BYO Banana to save on their Banana Split. I believe it is only...
