Read moreI went to China Buffet about a week ago. I had high hopes, as I enjoy Chinese food, and was very hungry at the time. I was alone, and I asked for a booth. When I returned from the restroom, the booth I was given, was occupied by a family. The waitress apologized, and I was OK with a small table, as it was pretty busy. The first stop was the salad bar. I love crab salad, even if the crab is fake. So I helped myself, and added a few other salads to my plate. I headed back to my table. I dug in. Ugh! What a disappointment! Every item was bland, and the fake crab salad was awful. It tasted awful, and possibly rotten. I abandoned that plate, and went back to try bravely try some sushi. There was a guy who was making it and it tasted fresh and cool. It was actually good, as were the fried plantains and a mushroom dish. But what really irked me was that I told a couple of servers about the bad crab salad, and they didn't do anything about it. It was room temperature, and besides tasting awful, it might have sickened the patrons. I fortunately, did not swallow any of it. After a few fried items, and some more plantains, I decided not to return. The ice cream bar was a mess, and I wonder how often they clean the machine. When I went up to the register to pay, I retold the crab salad tale, and the hostess actually was apologetic, and said she would try it to see what was wrong. Over all, the service was not great, and it was hard to get anyone's attention. I also noticed a couple of servers eating in the dining area. One was standing up. All in all, not a great experience. To put it mildly. Kudos to the hostess (cashier) who actually...
Read moreI've been coming here for quite a while now and I would say this place has been consistent over the years. The prices have gone up which sucks but that's just inflation and the sign of the times.
Food-wise, I'll come here when I get a weird craving and can't decide what I want (which is what buffets are great for). Most of the food is warm to hot. If you know what you want, it's not bad. Some food may come out overcooked due to being under the heat lamps for a while. I like the mussels myself just because it's different. I don't know if they still do the crab legs (which is what my mom would get) but I think they may have stopped because of cost. If you're coming with an army that includes kids, it's not a bad spot because there are kid friendly food items that are not Chinese like pizza. also, they have some Japanese type of stuff like sushi but that's something i wouldn't eat at a place like this if you're expecting fresh.
The main issue I have is that once you get your drink, you probably won't get another. This is one aspect that has slid down hill since the pandemic as years before, they were more consistent in refills.
The other issue I have is from cleanliness. The main food bar areas aren't bad but the dessert area is where I feel it's more suspect because of the usual kid terrors that create messes especially with the pudding, jello and cake spilled. This isn't an issue specific to this place but more of an issue...
