Tina's Cafe 38 — Restaurant in Torrington

We ordered a frozen coffee frappe and ice cream. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with either. The frappe was watery and weak-tasting; it honestly tasted like hot coffee had just been poured over blended ice. I was expecting a rich coffee flavor, which was disappointing. I’d suggest at least turning coffee into ice cubes and blending that, for a richer flavor. Or maybe adding some espresso? I’d definitely opt for something more classic like iced coffee or a latte if I visited again. In addition, the sprinkles on our ice cream tasted off—as if they were stale. My daughter didn’t seem to notice, but I definitely did. I hate to leave a less than stellar review, but honestly just want this place to stand a chance against the many other choices in this area. Another stop on our local touring checklist! Staff and customers were so sweet, we just casually chatted as if we all knew each other for a while. This is one of those places that makes you feel like you are in a small town movie, just chatting with old friends and enjoying a delicious snack.

As far as food, it's exactly what you expect for a cafe, the only difference is it's an american style cafe. It offers ice creams and yummy foods, cold or hot, as well as small bistro style soups and regional specials. It isn' t a large pastry cafe, so keep that in mind. Smoothies were all fruits, no fillers. I brought my own stevia cuz I like a certain brand, but you can ask about sweeteners there.

I’m glad I tried this place because living in Torrington there’s not many fresh food and/or healthy spots in town there’s a lot of fast food. I enjoyed the food however I do wish it had more flavor. I got a grilled chicken wheat wrap with avocado cheese, lettuce, mayonnaise and onion there wasn’t any onion on it which was whatever but as I said, I just wish I had a little bit more flavor. You could pick from chips as a side, hummus and carrots and then salads for extra charge.
