Connecticut Boot and Shoe — Local services in Torrington

Let me start out by saying I have very flat feet and a lot of problems with them. My whole life I have spent 1000's on inserts and special shoes that were supposed to help, I gave up. I found an OK shoe and just suffer through it.

Recently my wife and I started hiking a LOT. Its now our hobby and I was struggling so I thought about trying to find a good hiking boot to go check out all those great CT trails.

We were told about Fred at a festival earlier this year and decided to give him a try.

He was professional, knowledgable and a pleasure to work with this problem through. He was patient and understanding.

We tried a few, he let me do extensive walking tests to find the right fit. We found one I liked and he helped pick out a high quality insert designed to help folks with problems like mine.

Fred took the time to explain the technology behind the shoes and and inserts and explained how they worked and gave us a few tips.

Now I waited a few weeks to write this review as I wanted to see how I would enjoy the shoes after the purchase as this has bit me in the butt so many times previously.

I have to say they are by far the most comfortable thing my horrendous feet have ever had the pleasure of walking in. I am now going 5+ miles a day without issues and only growing stronger.

I bought my first pair of work shoes there about 4 months ago. I stand on a concrete floor a majority of the day. I was having some lower back pain and pain in my right foot as the ground is uneven where I stand. I explained all this to the owner and he recommended a pair of thorogood work shoes. I did try a few others on, but these stuck with me as the ones I wanted. Being made in America was a HUGE plus to me. Within 2 weeks my body pain was gone. I cannot recommend enough the care he takes for his customer. I returned today as there was some stitching coming undone in a unique place on the shoe to see what his thoughts were. He applied a very strong epoxy to the area to seal it and while it began to set he cleaned up some loose stitches for me as well. To me this is why I try my hardest to shop local. Best experience I’ve ever had shopping full stop. The gentleman who owns this store is full of knowledge and knows how to apply that knowledge. I’ve always assumed I’m somewhere between a 12 wide or a 13 for boots. It turns out I’m not, and that one of my feet is also bigger than the other. I walked in expecting to try some boots on, figure out my size best I could and maybe buy a pair later on. The gentleman here sized me proper, offered insight into the sizing, gave me plenty of information about the boots I was interested in.
