My last trip in NY I had the opportunity to visit The One Sushi twice. I loved the food both times. The first visit, I did take out and tried the tropical roll, pork dumplings and their shrimp wonton soup. I loved all of it. In Maryland we have a Chinese place that specializes in Hong Kong style Chinese food. So I have had shrimp wontons before. The One's version is just as good, if not better, than what I have had in Maryland. The pork dumplings were tasty and loaded with meat. The tropical roll was so good, I'll be craving it for a long time to come. It'll be the first sushi I order when I am back in NY. Our second visit, I brought my Mom and daughter with me and we sat down for lunch. Mom had a Mai Tai, shrimp wonton soup and shrimp tempura and enjoyed all. My daughter ordered a chicken ramen bowl and Ichiban beer and enjoyed it very much. I had initially ordered the Effen cucumber-Sake tini. I was not what I expected and the waitress was happy to take it back and allowed me to make another choice, so I ordered the Margarita, which was very good. I also ordered the tuna poke bowl on spring mix. It was so good! I have a groupon for the next time I am up there and will definitely be going again! Great place, great service and a...
Read moreLow food rating was based on my entrée not the sushi. Sushi was still good as I previously experienced with my many visits to The One.
My entre was the steak & scallop combination hibachi. Steak was very tough. Quantity seemed about half of what I remember. Scallops were ok, but they now cut the scallop in half in a cross section. Only providing 5 or 6 half scallop pieces. Do the math. I'd gladly pay a few $s more to bring back what they used to provide on the hibachi menu. My fiancé had the chicken teriyaki. She also said quantity and quality had changed.
Service was still good. These waitresses are attentive and work hard.
Atmosphere.... well, the thing is the place has not changed. There is, what I assume is a manager, maybe the owner. He seems to walk around and gaze at the customers in a very unusual manor. He seems harmless, he wasnt rude. It was just creepy. Maybe he is trying too hard and being too obvious with assessing customer satisfaction. We both felt uncomfortable. He needs to change his tactics.
I will give it another try since I have had many good meals in the past. But not too soon. I am hoping it was just an off night in...
Read moreBy far, one of the WORST meals we've ordered EVER! Chicken Yakitori appetizer ,the Fried Baby Shrimp, the Fried Rice and the Clear Soup ALL went straight into the GARBAGE!!!
Chicken had nothing Japanese tasting about it. The taste of CURRY was overpowering and the chicken itself was beyond dry!
The fried baby shrimp had another AWFUL spice that made it totally INEDIBLE! Can't even begin to describe it!
The fried rice was another DISASTER! Tasteless and with a strange odor that could only be described as SOUR!
The clear soup was LOADED with SALT making it IMPOSSIBLE to eat!
Ordered two additional Hibachi Combo meals....Angus Steak and Chicken and both were nothing special. The meat was beyond TOUGH and the chicken had very little flavor. But, at almost $30 per order, we basically forced ourselves to eat it! Especially considering that the rest of our order was thrown out!
Spent almost $100 for an AWFUL dinner experience! NEVER AGAIN!!!
Not sure about the RAVING reviews because we certainly didn't have a very...
